Gingee K. S. Masthan is an Indian Tamil politician and one of the Ministers of Tamil Nadu from May 2021. [1] He has been elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 2016 [2] [3] [4] on behalf of DMK in the Gingee assembly constituency which is a part of the Villupuram district. He was re-elected to the same legislative assembly in the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly election. Following this, on 7 May 2021, he was appointed a Minister of Minorities Welfare, Wakf Board, and Non Resident Tamil Welfare, Refugees & Evacuees. Non Resident Tamil Welfare, Refugees & Evacuees is an initiative by the M.K. Stalin Cabinet Ministry. KS Masthan is also the District Secretary of Vilupuram North with DMK.

Life

He was born in Gingee on 31 May 1955, to Ghaza Basha and Julaika Bi, who were farmers. He completed his E.S.L.C. schooling from Gingee Government High School in 1972. He married Saidhani B Masthan in 1985 and has three daughters, Mimunnisa, Jai Munnisa, Thai Munnisa and one son K. S. M. Mokthiyar Masthan.

Politics

Masthan has been elected to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for two consecutive terms from Gingee constituency in the elections of 2016 and 2021.

Kalyanasundaram Anbazhagan was an Indian Tamil politician. He was a long-standing leader of the Dravidian movement and was the General Secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party for nine terms. He has held several cabinet ministerial portfolios in the Tamil Nadu government under M. Karunanidhi including Finance, Education and Health and Social Welfare. D. Jayakumar is an Indian politician and was a Member of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He served in various cabinet positions starting from 1991 - Forests, Fisheries, Information Technology, Electricity and Finance. He is one among the senior leaders of AIADMK. In October 2020, he was appointed to 11 member Steering Committee of AIADMK and also serves as its Organizing Secretary. In the TN 2021 Election for Royapuram constituency, he was defeated by Murthy.R of DMK by a margin of 27,779 votes. He had represented Royapuram five times - 1991, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016.

S. Gunasekaran is an Indian politician and a former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu from Sivaganga constituency.

A. Mohammed John was an Indian industrialist and politician. He served as Member of Rajyasabha representing Tamil Nadu. He defeated R. Gandhi of DMK party in 2011 general elections. The then ADMK party supremo J. Jayalalitha discharged him from the minister post to reshuffle her ministry and the Backward class ministry was handed over to Abdur Rahim. He was into controversy among the Muslims of his constituency for supporting the Bill and voted in favour of NDA Government's citizenship amendment Bill and there were severe protests out of his home in Ranipet which were organized by Minorities. The Muslims who are indigenous residents of Ranipet removed him from all the posts that are related to Ahle-sunnath-jama'ath which saw a major setback in his political career. While on enquiry about why he backed Tamil Nadu Chief minister Edappadi.k.Pazhaniswamy on CAB he said that the party and the commands from the same are priority for him therefore the jamaath of Ranipet removed him from all the posts of Masjid of which he was a member before. He was a member of the 14th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Ranipet constituency. He represented the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. He was minister of the state for the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare.

The Sixteenth Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election was held on 6 April 2021, to elect representatives from the 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election, ending the decade-long reign of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The DMK's leader M. K. Stalin became the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the 12th Chief Minister since the 1956 reorganization. He replaced Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK.
