Keighley bus station serves the town of Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. The bus station is owned and managed by Metro.^[1]

History

The bus station is situated in Keighley town centre next to the Airedale Centre and can be accessed from Bow Street and Towngate. The bus station was opened off Lawkholme Crescent in the town in 1940. Bus shelters were added in 1970 after the Airedale Shopping centre opened up on the south side of the bus station in the late 1960s.^[2] The station was re-built in 2002 by Metro.

In the updated Pevsner's guide to West (Riding of) Yorkshire, Peter Leach made note of the jagged roofline and masonry at each end of the building.^[3]

There are 17 stands at the bus station and the main operators are Keighley Bus Company and Burnley Bus Company with other services run by Jackson's of Silsden and Team Pennine (Formerly Yorkshire Tiger)

Services

Buses run from the bus station around the town of Keighley. They also run as far afield as Burnley (extending to Padiham and Accrington until 2011), Skipton (extending to Grassington until 2011), Ilkley (extended to Otley and Leeds Bradford Airport in 2016), Leeds (extending to Wetherby from 1993 to 1997), Bradford and Hebden Bridge (previously Todmorden until 2007).

Previous bus station

Keighley's previous bus station was constructed in 1940 and the bus shelters were added in 1970. It was closed in 2001 to make way for the current bus station which opened in 2002. It was served originally by West Yorkshire Automobile before 1987 and deregulation. After deregulation, it was served by Keighley & District and First Calderdale & Huddersfield. Between 2001 and 2002 buses waited in the surrounding streets whilst the current bus station was being constructed. In 1997 many services were withdrawn these included through services from Bradford to Haworth, Oxenhope and Oakworth.

The service is operated by Northern, on the route connecting Leeds and Bradford with Skipton. Some services along the line continue to Morecambe or Carlisle. The route covered by the service was historically part of the Midland Railway.

Metro is the passenger information brand used by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority in England. It was formed on 1 April 1974 as the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE), at the same time as the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire. The Metro brand has been used from the outset and, since the formal abolition of the WYPTE on 1 April 2014, it has remained the brand name of public transport in the region, overseen by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which is also responsible for the delivery of transport policies.

Keighley railway station serves the market town of Keighley in West Yorkshire, England. The station is located on the Airedale line, 17 miles (27 km) north-west of Leeds. It provides electric services to Leeds, Skipton and Bradford Forster Square, operated by Northern, along with longer distance diesel services to Morecambe and Carlisle. The station is split in two: National Rail services operate from platforms 1 and 2, while platforms 3 and 4 are the northern terminus of heritage services to Oxenhope on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

Steeton and Silsden railway station serves the village of Steeton and the town of Silsden in West Yorkshire, England. It is situated closer to Steeton than to Silsden, and is on the Airedale Line. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Northern.

The Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway was an early British railway company in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It built a line from Shipley near Bradford through Keighley and Skipton to Colne. The Skipton–Colne Line closed in 1970, but the remainder of the line is still in use today, and once formed part of the Midland Railway's main line route from London to Glasgow.

Laycock is a small village in the Bradford District of West Yorkshire that overlooks the hamlet of Goose Eye. The village is 1.9 miles (3 km) west of the town of Keighley and 1.2 miles (2 km) north of Oakworth village. The village is in the council ward of Keighley West.

Thwaites railway station was located just east of Keighley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England; it was a stop on the Midland Railway line through the Aire Valley between Keighley and Shipley. It opened to traffic in 1892 and closed 17 years later in 1909, due to poor patronage.
