The Hron is a 271-kilometre (168 mi) long left tributary of the Danube and the second-longest river in Slovakia. It flows from its source in the Low Tatra Mountains through central and southern Slovakia, emptying into the Danube near Štúrovo and Esztergom. Major cities and towns on the Hron are Brezno, Banská Bystrica, Sliač, Zvolen, Žiar nad Hronom, Žarnovica, Nová Baňa, Tlmače, Levice, Želiezovce, and Štúrovo.

The Bodrog is a river in eastern Slovakia and north-eastern Hungary. It is a tributary of the river Tisza. The Bodrog is formed by the confluence of the rivers Ondava and Latorica near Zemplín in eastern Slovakia. It crosses the Slovak–Hungarian border at the village of Felsőberecki in Hungary, and Streda nad Bodrogom in Slovakia, where it is also the lowest point in Slovakia, and continues its flow through the Hungarian county Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, until it meets the river Tisza, in Tokaj. A town along its course is Sárospatak, in Hungary.

Zemplín is the name of an informal traditional region located in eastern Slovakia. It includes the Slovak part of the former Zemplén county, often including the Slovak part of the Ung county.

The Turiec is a river in north-western Slovakia. It is a tributary to the Váh, into which it flows near the city of Martin. Its source is in the Veľká Fatra Mountains. It is 67 km (42 mi) long and its basin size is 931 km2 (359 sq mi). The Turiec region is named after this river.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Žilina Region</span> Region of Slovakia

The Žilina Region is one of the eight Slovak administrative regions and consists of 11 districts (okresy) and 315 municipalities, from which 18 have a town status. The region was established in 1923, however, in its present borders exists from 1996. It is a more industrial region with several large towns. Žilina is the region administrative center and there is a strong cultural environment in Martin.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bodva</span> River in Slovakia and Hungary

The Bodva is a 110-km long river in Slovakia and Hungary. Its source is in the Slovak Ore Mountains. The river crosses the border with Hungary near Turňa nad Bodvou, and flows into the river Sajó in Boldva, north of Miskolc. Within Slovakia, its length is 47 km (29 mi) and its basin size is 866 km2 (334 sq mi). Two of its tributaries are the Turňa and the Ida.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Latorica</span> River in Ukraine, Slovakia

Latorica is a river in the watershed of the Danube. Its source is in the Ukrainian Carpathians, near the village Latirka. It flows from Ukraine (156.6 km) to Slovakia (31.4 km), 188 km in total and west through the towns of Svaliava, Mukachevo, Solomonovo, Chop and Veľké Kapušany. Its basin size is 7,740 km2 (2,990 sq mi). Its confluence with the Ondava, in Zemplín, gives rise to the Bodrog river, itself a tributary of the Tisza.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ondava</span> River in Slovakia

The Ondava is a river in eastern Slovakia, the northern source river of the Bodrog. Its source is in the Low Beskids, near the village Nižná Polianka, close to the border with Poland. The Ondava flows south through the towns of Svidník, Stropkov and Trhovište, and through the Ondavská Highlands. It is 142 km (88 mi) long and its basin size is 3,355 km2 (1,295 sq mi).

The Dudváh is a lowland river in western Slovakia. Its source is located in the Čachtice Little Carpathians, and it mostly runs in parallel to the Váh river. It flows into the Váh near the village of Siladice. Its average discharge flow is 1.3 m³/s near Siladice. It is 41.7 km (25.9 mi) long and its basin size is 499 km2 (193 sq mi). Its former lower course, the Dolný Dudváh, branches off close to Siladice and flows towards the south. Near the town Čierna Voda, the Dolný Dudváh flows into the river Čierna voda, which in turn flows into the Little Danube. The Dolný Dudváh is 34.2 km (21.3 mi) long and its basin size is 751 km2 (290 sq mi).

The Upper Váh region is a tourism region in the north-west of Slovakia. Because of its beautiful countryside, it is one of the most visited regions in Slovakia. In the past it was part of Trencsén County.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Čierna voda</span> River in Slovakia

The Čierna voda is a lowland river in western Slovakia. It is 105.5 km long. Its source is in the Little Carpathians, near the town Svätý Jur. Near the town Čierna Voda, it is joined by its largest tributary: the Dudváh. It discharges into the Little Danube river near the village Dolný Chotár.
