Rajasthan has 13 Municipal Corporations, 36 Municipal Councils and 169 Municipal Boards or Nagar Pachayats. Thus Rajasthan has a total 218 Municipalities or Urban Local Bodies(ULBs). [1] The Rajasthan Municipalities Act, 2009 governs the administration of all the urban local bodies in the state. [2] The Department of Local Self Government of the Rajasthan Government monitors the administration of all the municipalities in the state. [3] The last elections to civic bodies in the state took place in 2019 where 49 municipal bodies with combined 2,105 wards had their elections. Indian National Congress won 961 wards, Bharatiya Janata Party won 737 wards, Bahujan Samaj Party won 16 wards, Communist Party of India (Marxist) won three wards, and the Nationalist Congress Party won two wards. List of municipal corporations or Nagar Nigams of Rajasthan. [5] Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota have two municipal corporations each since October 2019, because their populations have exceeded 10 lakh each. [6] As of August 2024, there are 13 Municipal Corporations in Rajasthan for ten cities.
Jaipur has a heritage municipal corporation with 100 wards and a greater Jaipur municipal corporation with 150 wards. Jodhpur has separate ULBs for its northern and southern parts with 80 wards each. Kota also has separate ULBs for its northern and southern parts, with 70 and 80 wards each.

Rajasthan is a state in northwestern India. It covers 342,239 square kilometres (132,139 sq mi) or 10.4 per cent of India's total geographical area. It is the largest Indian state by area and the seventh largest by population. It is on India's northwestern side, where it comprises most of the wide and inhospitable Thar Desert and shares a border with the Pakistani provinces of Punjab to the northwest and Sindh to the west, along the Sutlej-Indus River valley. It is bordered by five other Indian states: Punjab to the north; Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to the northeast; Madhya Pradesh to the southeast; and Gujarat to the southwest. Its geographical location is 23°.3' to 30°.12' North latitude and 69°.30' to 78°.17' East longitude, with the Tropic of Cancer passing through its southernmost tip.
Jodhpur is the second-largest city of the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan after its capital Jaipur. As of 2023, the city has a population of 1.83 million. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the Jodhpur district and Jodhpur division. It is historic capital of the Kingdom of Marwar, founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput chief of the Rathore clan. On 11 August 1947, 4 days prior to the Indian independence, Maharaja Hanwant Singh the last ruler of Jodhpur state signed the Instrument of Accession and merged his state in Union of India. On 30 March 1949, it became part of the newly formed state of Rajasthan, which was created after merging the states of the erstwhile Rajputana Agency.
Bhilwara is a city and administrative headquarters in Bhilwara district of the Mewar region of Rajasthan, India. It has been termed as 'Textile city'.
Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi was an Indian politician who was one of the founding Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members in Rajasthan. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was cabinet minister in earlier state BJP ministries with responsibilities of important portfolios. He was earlier state president of Bharatiya Janata Party, Rajasthan .. He had a Master of Science degree in physics. He was imprisoned in 1949 while participating in satyagraha to lift ban on RSS during 1948-50; organized movement against emergency and remained in jail for eighteen months, 1974-76. He was the only cabinet minister to have resigned for Ram Mandir movement in 1991.
Gangapur is a city and a municipal council located in Gangapur City District in the eastern part of Indian state of Rajasthan. It is situated 140 km east of Rajasthan's capital Jaipur, 76 km from Sawai Madhopur, 33 km from Karauli, 160 km from Agra of Uttar Pradesh. It is famous for its Sweet Cuisine Kheermohan and newly built Kushalgarh Baba Shyam Temple. The Municipal Council consists of 60 wards.

The corporation was established by Government of Rajasthan on 1 October 1964 under the Road Transport Act 1950. RSRTC operates ordinary, express and deluxe services.
In India, the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), also called municipalities, are self-government institutions responsible for the administration of cities, towns, and transitional areas within a state or Union Territory. The 74th amendment to the Constitution of India in 1992 provided constitutional framework for the establishment of Urban Local Bodies.
Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is municipal corporation of Jaipur city in Rajasthan state in India. Jaipur Municipal Corporation is responsible for maintaining the city's civic infrastructure and carrying out associated administrative duties. The Municipal Corporation is headed by a mayor. There are 250 wards and each ward is represented by an elected member. Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is the nodal government agency responsible for the planning and development of Jaipur. Jaipur consists of two parliamentary constituencies Jaipur and Jaipur Rural. Shri Mohan Lal Gupta was the first mayor of Jaipur Nagar Nigam in the year 1994.
Dinesh Maheshwari is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India. He is a former Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court & High Court of Meghalaya. He took the oath as a Judge of Rajasthan High Court on 2 September 2004. He was transferred to the Allahabad High Court and remained senior Judge at the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court from 2 March 2015. He took oath as Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya on 24 February 2016. On transfer to Karnataka, Justice Maheshwari took oath as 30th Chief Justice of High Court of Karnataka on 12 February 2018. He took oath as Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 18 January 2019.
The 74th constitutional amendment act mandated the setting up and devolution of powers to Urban local bodies (ULBs) or city governments as the lowest unit of governance in cities and towns. This landmark initiative of the Government of India in 1993 was built upon the premise that all ‘power’ in a democracy rightfully belongs to ‘the people’. Power was mandated to be given to the people via the local bodies, namely Municipal Corporations, Councils and Nagar Panchayats, which would have representatives that are elected regularly and have a decisive role in planning, provision and delivery of services.
The first case of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Indian state of Rajasthan was reported on 2 March 2020 in Jaipur. The Rajasthan Health Department has confirmed a total of 29,835 cases, including 563 deaths and 21866 recoveries as of 20 July 2020. All districts in the state have reported confirmed cases of which, Jaipur is the worst-affected.
