Suffolk County is a predominantly suburban county on Long Island and the easternmost county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the county's population was 1,493,350, estimated to have decreased slightly to 1,492,953 in 2017, making it the fourth-most populous county in New York. The church is actually the third church of the same name to stand in the area. The original was built in 1665, soon after the town's founding at what is tody the southwest corner of NY 25A and Spring Street. The first church was demolished when its size proved inadequate, even after expansion, and the second church erected in its present location in 1715. The second church was destroyed in 1782 for use in construction of fortifications by British troops occupying Huntington. The current church was rebuilt in the same location in 1784. [3] [4]
