Manipur is a state in northeast India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. It is bounded by the Indian states of Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south and Assam to the west. It also borders two regions of Myanmar, Sagaing Region to the east and Chin State to the south. The state covers an area of 22,327 square kilometres (8,621 sq mi). The official and most widely spoken language is Meitei language. Native to the Meitei people, it is also used as a lingua franca by smaller communities, who speak a variety of other Sino-Tibetan languages. Manipur has been at the crossroads of Asian economic and cultural exchange for more than 2,500 years. It connects the Indian subcontinent and Central Asia to Southeast Asia, East Asia, Siberia, regions in the Arctic, Micronesia and Polynesia enabling migration of people, cultures and religions.
The Trinamool Congress is an Indian national political party with great influence in the state of West Bengal. It is a congress party founded by the former Minister of Railways of the Republic of India Mamata Banerjee (Didi) on 1 January 1998 as a breakaway faction from the Indian National Congress. The party has won a three-time majority in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and has been the ruling party in West Bengal since 20 May 2011. Legislative Assembly elections were held in Manipur from 28 February to 5 March 2022 in two phases, to elect 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The results declared on 10 March 2022. The newly constituted assembly was named 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The Kuki National Assembly (KNA) is a political party in the Indian state of Manipur. It was formed on 24 October 1946, by S. M. Zavun, to act as a pan-political organisation among the various Kuki people. It last won seats in the 1990 Manipur Legislative Assembly election, and after that slowly fizzled out. In the 2022 Manipur Legislative Assembly election, the party fielded candidates for 2 constituencies.
The Kuki People's Alliance is an Indian state-level political party in Manipur. It was formed by former Indian Foreign Service officer Tongmang Haokip and Wilson L Hangshing on January 12, 2022. The party won 2 seats in the 2022 Manipur Legislative Assembly election. The KPA is mainly based on the interests of the Kuki people. KPA supported BJP in Manipur and became an ally of BJP in its government.
