Purabi Basu (born 21 September 1949 [1] ) is a Bangladeshi short-story writer, pharmacologist and activist. She won Anannya Literary Award in 2005 [2] and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2013. [3] As of 2005, she has been working as a senior executive at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, a drug company based in New York. [4]
Basu completed her bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Dhaka. [4] She moved to the United States in 1970. She then earned her master's degree in biochemistry from Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1972 and Ph.D. from University of Missouri in nutrition in 1976. [4] She later worked as a postdoctoral fellow in pharmacology at the University of South Alabama. [4]
Basu worked as a director of the health, nutrition and population division at BRAC. [4]
Basu is married to Ekushey Padak and Bangla Academy Literary Award winning short-story writer Jyoti Prakash Dutta. [2] [7]
Humayun Azad was a Bangladeshi poet, novelist, short-story writer, critic, linguist, columnist and professor of Dhaka University. He wrote more than sixty titles. He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1986 for his contributions to Bengali linguistics. In 2012, the Government of Bangladesh honored him with Ekushey Padak posthumously for his contributions to Bengali literature.

Bengali literature denotes the body of writings in the Bengali language. Bengali has developed over the course of roughly 1,300 years. The earliest extant work in Bengali literature is the Charyapada, a collection of Buddhist mystic songs in Old Bengali dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries. The timeline of Bengali literature is divided into three periods − ancient (650-1200), medieval (1200-1800) and modern. Medieval Bengali literature consists of various poetic genres, including Hindu religious scriptures, Islamic epics, Vaishnava texts, translations of Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit texts, and secular texts by Muslim poets. Novels were introduced in the mid-19th century. Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore is the best known figure of Bengali literature to the world. Kazi Nazrul Islam, notable for his activism and anti-British literature, was described as the Rebel Poet and is now recognised as the National poet of Bangladesh.
Syed Shamsul Haq was a Bangladeshi writer. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contributions to Bangla literature. His notable works include "Payer Awaj Pawa Jai", "Nishiddho Loban", "Khelaram Khele Ja", "Neel Dongshon" and "Mrigoya".
Imdadul Haq Milan is a Bangladeshi novelist and noted Journalist. He was editor of the daily newspaper Kaler Kantho. He is the recipient of Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1992 and Ekushey Padak in 2019.
Abdul Gaffar Choudhury is a Bangladeshi-born British writer, journalist, columnist, political analyst and poet. He wrote the lyrics to "Amar Bhaier Rôkte Rangano", a widely celebrated song commemorating the Bengali Language Movement.
