Ragay station is a railway station located on the South Main Line in Camarines Sur, Philippines. It is still in use for the Bicol Express and Isarog Limited.

History

Ragay was opened on August 28, 1933, as part of the expansion of the Legazpi Division line to Port Ragay. Through services to and from Manila commenced on January 31, 1938.

Ragay Gulf Body of water

Bicol River

The Bicol River is the eighth largest river in the Philippines in terms of drainage basin size with an estimated catchment area of 3,770 square kilometres (1,460 sq mi). The river drains a large part of southwestern Bicol Peninsula of the island of Luzon and passes through Camarines Sur province.

Tayabas Isthmus, separates the Bicol Peninsula from the main part of Luzon Island, and the Bondoc Peninsula which lies between Tayabas Bay and Ragay Gulf. Luzon has a width of 120 kilometers to 160 kilometers but it narrows to 13 kilometers and not more than 15 kilometers, when it comes to such straits. The isthmus is located between the Tayabas Bay and Lamon Bay.

Andaya Highway

Rolando Andaya Highway, officially known as Quirino Highway and also known as Camarines Sur–Quezon Road, is a national primary highway located in the provinces of Camarines Norte, Quezon, and Camarines Sur in the Philippines. It traverses the municipality of Santa Elena in Camarines Norte, municipalities of Sipocot, Lupi, Ragay, and Del Gallego in Camarines Sur, and the municipalities of Tagkawayan & Guinayangan in Quezon. PNR South Main Line Philippine rail line

The PNR South Main Line is one of the two trunk lines that form the Philippine National Railways' network in the island of Luzon, Philippines. It was opened in stages between 1916 and 1938 by the Manila Railroad. Services peaked in the 1940s until the late 1960s, when the system started to decline. Since 1988, it was the only functioning inter-city rail after its counterpart to the north, the North Main Line, was closed. The intercity section of the line in Laguna, Quezon and the Bicol Region was then closed and reopened repeatedly between 2004 and 2014 due to a combination of declining ridership and was closed since then. Currently, only two short sections of the line survive; the PNR Metro Commuter Line between Tutuban station and Laguna, and the Bicol Commuter regional rail service between Sipocot and Naga, Camarines Sur.

Camarines Surs 1st congressional district

Camarines Sur's 1st congressional district is one of the five congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Camarines Sur. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1919. The district consists of the northern Camarines Sur municipalities of Cabusao, Del Gallego, Lupi, Ragay and Sipocot. Since October 2020, the district is represented by Representative Michael John Duavit of Rizal's 1st district in a caretaker capacity following the death of Representative Marissa Lourdes M. Andaya on July 5, 2020. It was previously under the caretakership of Taguig–Pateros's 1st district Representative Alan Peter Cayetano from September to October.

Quezons 3rd congressional district Congressional district in Quezon Province, Philippines

Quezon's 3rd congressional district is one of the four congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Quezon, formerly Tayabas. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1987. The district consists of municipalities in the Bondoc Peninsula, the southern part of Tayabas Isthmus and southwest coast of Ragay Gulf, namely Agdangan, Buenavista, Catanauan, General Luna, Macalelon, Mulanay, Padre Burgos, Pitogo, San Andres, San Francisco, San Narciso and Unisan. It is currently represented in the 18th Congress by Aleta Suarez of the Lakas–CMD.

The 1973 Ragay Gulf earthquake occurred at around 16:30 local time. It was measured as magnitude 7.0 Ms on the surface wave magnitude scale. It had a maximum intensity of IX (Violent) on the MMI, according to the National Geophysics Data Center, while according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the tremor had an intensity of VIII on the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale. It killed 14 people, injured 100 others, and caused an estimated $2 million in damages.
