Sa'idu Ahmad Alkali (born 12 February 1969),a Nigerian politician. He rose to prominence as the Senator for Gombe North senatorial district,initially elected in 2010. Despite facing electoral ups and downs,he showcased his commitment to public service,serving as a bridge between various political platforms and leaving an indelible mark on Nigerian politics.
He is a Nigerian politician who was elected as Senator for the Gombe North senatorial district of Gombe State,Nigeria in August 2010 by-elections after the death of the incumbent Senator Kawu Peto Dukku. He was reelected in the 2011 General elections,running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. [1] He however failed to secure the party's ticket in 2014 primaries which made him defect to the APC in 2019 and won.
Alkali lost re-election to Former Gov. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo in the 2023 general elections making it a revenge were he also defeated the later in the 2019 general elections.
Sa'idu Ahmed Alkali was born on 12 February,1969. He holds the honorary title of Sarkin Gabas Dukku. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics,and became a public servant. [2] Alhaji Sa'idu Ahmed Alkali was formerly commissioner of information in the administration of Governor Danjuma Goje. [3] After the death of Kawu Peto Dukku in April 2010,he emerged as the consensus candidate for the PDP primarily because was an indigene of Dukku Local Government Area. This decision made based on geographical location was criticized by some party members. [3]
In the April 2011 general elections,Alkali emerged the winner,gaining 136,850 votes on the PDP platform. Mu'azu Umar Babagoro of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) scored 81,519 and Engineer Abdullahi Sa'ad Abubakar of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) received 36,427 votes. [4]
He was pronounced minister of transportation by the president of Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 16 august,2023 [5]
Gombe State is a state in northeastern Nigeria,bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Borno for 93 km in the vicinity of Gongola River and Lake Dadin Kowa and Yobe in the vicinity of Gongola River for 140 km,to the south by Taraba State for 58 km,to the southeast by Adamawa State for 95 km,and to the west by Bauchi State for 277 km. Gombe is the state capital of Gombe state and it was formed from a part of Bauchi State on 1 October 1996. Of the 36 states in Nigeria,Gombe is the 21st largest in area and the 32nd most populous,with an estimated population of about 3.25 million as of 2016. The state bears a slogan "Jewel in the Savannah".
Mohammed Danjuma Goje was a former Governor of Gombe State,Nigeria under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP),taking office on 29 May 2003 during the 2003 Gombe State gubernatorial election. He is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Usman Bayero Nafada is a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe state,and a former senator for the Gombe North senatorial district in 2015 under the umbrella of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Dukku is a Local Government Area in Gombe State,Nigeria. Its headquarters is located in Dukku town. The Gongola River flows through the west and north of the LGA. It has an area of 3,815 km2 and a population of 207,190 from the 2006 census. The vast majority of the population are Muslims,but there is a Christian minority. The major ethnic group is Fulani with Fulfulde being spoken as a major language alongside Bole while Hausa,Kanuri,and Kare-Kare are also spoken.
