Theroteinus is an extinct genus of haramiyidan mammaliaforms from the Late Triassic of France and Britain. It contains three species: T. nikolai,T. rosieriensis and T. jenkinsi, the former two of which are known exclusively from teeth found at the sand quarry of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, [1] [2] while T. jenkinsi is known from a bedded sequence belonging to the Westbury Formation in a road cutting near Holwell, Dorset. [3] Theroteinus is the only member of the family Theroteinidae and the suborder Theroteinida. [1]

Teeth are absent from the premaxilla and front of the lower jaw, which in life were probably equipped with a horny beak.

Haramiyida is a possibly polyphyletic order of mammaliaform cynodonts or mammals of controversial taxonomic affinites. Their teeth, which are by far the most common remains, resemble those of the multituberculates. However, based on Haramiyavia, the jaw is less derived; and at the level of evolution of earlier basal mammals like Morganucodon and Kuehneotherium, with a groove for ear ossicles on the dentary. Some authors have placed them in a clade with Multituberculata dubbed Allotheria within Mammalia. Other studies have disputed this and suggested the Haramiyida were not crown mammals, but were part of an earlier offshoot of mammaliaformes instead. It is also disputed whether the Late Triassic species are closely related to the Jurassic and Cretaceous members belonging to Euharamiyida/Eleutherodontida, as some phylogenetic studies recover the two groups as unrelated, recovering the Triassic haramiyidians as non-mammalian cynodonts, while recovering the Euharamiyida as crown-group mammals closely related to multituberculates.

<i>Woutersia</i> Extinct genus of mammaliaforms

Woutersia was a Triassic genus of 'symmetrodont' and the only representative of the family Woutersiidae. It was originally classified as a kuehneotheriid, but it has been suggested that it may be related to Docodonta. Remains of W. mirabilis and W. butleri have been found in the Gres à Avicula contorta Formation at Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, France, while W. mirabilis has been found in Varangéville, France; remains have been dated to the Late Triassic, 205.6 to 201.6 Ma.

<i>Kuehneotherium</i> Extinct genus of mammaliaforms

Kuehneotherium is an early mammaliaform genus, previously considered a holothere, that lived during the Late Triassic-Early Jurassic Epochs and is characterized by reversed-triangle pattern of molar cusps. Although many fossils have been found, the fossils are limited to teeth, dental fragments, and mandible fragments. The genus includes Kuehneotherium praecursoris and all related species. It was first named and described by Doris M. Kermack, K. A. Kermack, and Frances Mussett in November 1967. The family Kuehneotheriidae and the genus Kuehneotherium were created to house the single species Kuehneotherium praecursoris. Modeling based upon a comparison of the Kuehneotherium jaw with other mammaliaforms indicates it was about the size of a modern-day shrew between 4 and 5.5 g at adulthood.

Cosgriffius is an extinct genus of trematosaurian temnospondyl within the family Trematosauridae. It was described in 1993 by Samuel P. Welles based on a single partial skull from the well-known Meteor Crater Quarry in Arizona that also produced more abundant remains of the capitosaur Wellesaurus peabodyi. The skull was long and slender, features typically associated with the trematosaurid subfamily Lonchorhynchinae. This is the only trematosaurid known from western North America.

Rileymillerus is an extinct genus of temnospondyl amphibian from the Late Triassic Post Quarry in the Dockum Group of Texas that was described by John Bolt and Sankar Chatterjee in 2000. The holotype, a nearly complete skull with articulated jaws, is housed at the Museum of Texas Tech University. The genus is named for Riley Miller, who allowed Chatterjee to work on the Post Quarry, and the species is named for the paleontologist John Cosgriff.

Gephyrosauridae is an extinct family of rhynchocephalians that lived in the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic. They are generally considered to be rhynchocephalians that lie outside of Sphenodontia, but in some analyses they are recovered as more closely related to squamates than to sphenodontians.

Variodens is an extinct genus of trilophosaur. Fossils have been found from the Emborough Quarries in the Mendip Hills of Somerset, England. These fossils have been uncovered from a Late Triassic fissure fill within Carboniferous-age limestone. The type and only known species is V. inopinatus, named in 1957.

Arboroharamiya is an extinct genus of early mammal from the Middle Jurassic Tiaojishan Formation of Inner Mongolia, China. Arboroharamiya belongs to a group of mammaliaforms called Haramiyida. The type species Arboroharamiya jenkinsi was described in the journal Nature in 2013 alongside a description of the closely related haramiyidan Megaconus. Unlike Megaconus, which is thought to have been ground-dwelling, Arboroharamiya was arboreal. It has a long tail that might have been prehensile, and very long fingers. Based on the shape of its teeth, Arboroharamiya might have been an omnivore or a seed eater. Recent interpretations of its specimen suggest that it possessed patagia and was a glider.

The Lilstock Formation is a geologic formation in England. It preserves bivalve, insect and other invertebrate fossils, as well as fossil fish of Agkistracanthus mitgelensis and the basal theropod dinosaur Newtonsaurus cambrensis dating back to the Rhaetian of the Triassic period.

The Candelária Formation, in other literature also referred to as Candelária Sequence, is a sedimentary formation of the Santa Maria Group in the Paraná Basin in Rio Grande do Sul, southeastern Brazil. Listracanthidae is a proposed family of extinct cartilaginous fish. It currently includes the genera Listracanthus and Acanthorhachis. This clade is likely included within Elasmobranchii, but its placement within it is uncertain. Both genera are known from their distinctive spiny dermal dentictles which coat the exterior of their long, slender bodies. They are known from the Viséan to the Early Triassic, mainly from what is now the northern hemisphere. However, there is a possible occurrence in Australia.

Rhomphaiodon is an extinct genus of prehistoric sharks in the order Synechodontiformes that has been found in Late Triassic and Early Jurassic deposits located in Europe. The type species R. minor was originally named as a species of Hybodus in 1837 by Louis Agassiz. A second species, R. nicolensis, was added when the genus was named in 1993.

Fluctuodon is an extinct genus of kuehneotheriid mammaliaforms from the Late Triassic of France. Its type and only known species is Fluctuodon necmergor. Fluctuodon is known solely from molar teeth, which are distinguished from those of its close relative Kuehneotherium by their less acutely angled cusps.

<i>Kalaallitkigun</i> Extinct genus of mammaliaforms

Kalaallitkigun is an extinct genus of haramiyidan mammaliaforms from the Late Triassic of Greenland. It contains a single species, Kalaallitkigun jenkinsi, which was described in 2020 from a partial dentary found in the Fleming Fjord Formation. More specifically, it was found in the mid-late Norian Carlsberg Fjord beds of the Ørsted Dal Member. It is the oldest of several mammaliaform species discovered in the Late Triassic sediments of Greenland. It is also the oldest mammaliaform with double-rooted teeth, and its pattern of tooth cusps help to clarify the evolution of haramiyidan teeth relative to their morganucodont-like ancestors.

Rosierodon is an extinct genus of morganucodont mammaliaforms from the Late Triassic of France. It contains a single species, Rosierodon anceps, which was named in 2015 based on several isolated lower molariforms discovered in Saint-Nicolas-de-Port.

Penegephyrosaurus is an extinct genus of early rhynchocephalian from the Late Triassic of the United Kingdom. It contains a single species, Penegephyrosaurus curtiscoppi. It is only known from a partial lower jaw. It is considered one of the most basal known rhynchocephalians and is placed as part of the family Gephyrosauridae.
