Clodomir Viana Moog (28 October 1906 - 15 January 1988) was a Brazilian lawyer, journalist, novelist and essayist.
Moog was born in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, the son of Marcos Moog and Maria da Glória Viana. Failing to join the military, he studied law in Porto Alegre. He also served as an anti-smuggling border agent. He later served as a tax agent in Santa Cruz do Sul and in Rio Grande.
Upon graduation, he became involved in politics, joining the Liberal Alliance. He was an active participant in the Constitutionalist Revolution against dictator Getúlio Vargas. He was arrested and removed to Amazonas, but later received amnesty and returned to Rio Grande do Sul.
He served as a representative of the Brazilian government at the Organization of American States (OAS) and at the United Nations. In 1945, he became a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. As a writer, he published extensively in both fiction and non-fiction, and his complete works in 10 volumes came out in 1966.
He died in 1988 in Rio de Janeiro. [1]
Rio Grande do Sul is a state in the southern region of Brazil. It is the fifth-most-populous state and the ninth largest by area. Luís Alves de Lima e Silva, Duke of Caxias, nicknamed "the Peacemaker" and "the Iron Duke", was an army officer, politician and monarchist of the Empire of Brazil. Like his father and uncles, Caxias pursued a military career. In 1823 he fought as a young officer in the Brazilian War for Independence against Portugal, then spent three years in Brazil's southernmost province, Cisplatina, as the government unsuccessfully resisted that province's secession in the Cisplatine War. Though his own father and uncles renounced Emperor Dom Pedro I during the protests of 1831, Caxias remained loyal. Pedro I abdicated in favor of his young son Dom Pedro II, whom Caxias instructed in swordsmanship and horsemanship and eventually befriended.

Manoel Viana is a Brazilian municipality in the western part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It has a population of 7,307 (2020). Its elevation is 113 m. It has an area of 1,390.7 square kilometers making it one of the largest municipalities in the state. It is located 590 km west of the state capital of Porto Alegre and east of Alegrete. It is the only municipality that is by the Ibicuí River.

Paulo Renato Paim is a Brazilian steelworker turned politician. He served as a federal deputy from Rio Grande do Sul for the Workers' Party from 1987 to 2002. On 2002, he was elected Senator from the same state. Re-elected in 2010, he is currently the only Afro-Brazilian Senator. He also served as Vice-President of trade union center Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) from 1984 to 1986.
Manuel Marques de Sousa, Count of Porto Alegre, nicknamed "the Gloved Centaur", was an army officer, politician and abolitionist of the Empire of Brazil. Born into a wealthy family of military background, Manuel Marques de Sousa joined the Portuguese Army in Brazil in 1817 when he was little more than a child. His military initiation occurred in the conquest of the Banda Oriental, which was annexed and became the southernmost Brazilian province of Cisplatina in 1821. For most of the 1820s, he was embroiled in the Brazilian effort to keep Cisplatina as part of its territory: first during the struggle for Brazilian independence and then in the Cisplatine War. It would ultimately prove a futile attempt, as Cisplatina successfully separated from Brazil to become the independent nation of Uruguay in 1828.
