The 1982 North Hertfordshire District Council election was held on 6 May 1982, at the same time as other local elections across England and Scotland. There were 16 out of 50 seats on North Hertfordshire District Council up for election, being the usual third of the council. [1]
Only one seat changed party, being a Conservative win from Labour in Letchworth South East ward. The council remained under Conservative control. The new SDP–Liberal Alliance took over 26% of the vote but did not secure any seats. The Labour vote fell by over 20% compared to the 1980 election.

North Hertfordshire is one of ten local government districts in the county of Hertfordshire, England. Its council is based in Letchworth. The district borders East Hertfordshire, Stevenage, Welwyn Hatfield, St Albans, Central Bedfordshire, Luton, and South Cambridgeshire.
One third of North Hertfordshire District Council in England is elected each year, followed by one year without election.
Fenland District Council in the Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England is elected every four years. Since the last boundary changes in 2015, 39 councillors are returned from 24 wards. The elections are held concurrently with the local government elections for Chatteris Town Council, March Town Council, Whittlesey Town Council, Wisbech Town Council and the other parish councils in the district, when the general election was held with district elections and the town and parish elections were pushed back to 24 May 1979.
