The D35 class are a class of diesel locomotives built by English Electric, Rocklea for Australian Iron & Steel's, Port Kembla steelworks between 1971 and 1975.
The D35 class were purchased to haul trains on Australian Iron & Steel's, Port Kembla network. They were used on coal trains from Kemira, Nebo and Wongawilli collieries as well as steel mill services. A downturn in the late 1970s saw six leased to the Public Transport Commission where as well as operating services in the Illawarra region, they operated as far as Bombo and Sydney. [1] [2] [3] [4]
All except previously scrapped D35 and D37 passed to Pacific National in August 2007 when BlueScope outsourced the operation of its rail network. [5] [6] D36, D38, D39 and D40-D45 were scrapped in 2018. D40 remains in service as a standby unit as of February 2021. [7]
The South Coast Line is an intercity rail service operated by NSW TrainLink that services the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The service runs from Central, and runs the entire length of the eponymous South Coast railway line to Bomaderry. The service also runs along the Eastern Suburbs railway line at peak hours and the Port Kembla railway line to Port Kembla. It is operated with NSW TrainLink H sets and Sydney Trains T sets, with Endeavour railcars operating the service on the non-electrified line between Kiama and Bomaderry.

In March 2007, it was sold to Coote Industrial, then in March 2010 to P&O Trans Australia, which in turn was acquired by Qube Holdings.

Australian Transport Network (ATN) was a freight railway operator in Australia that commenced operating in November 1997. The company operated narrow gauge trains in Tasmania and standard gauge trains in New South Wales and Victoria. It was formed as a joint venture with Tranz Rail owning 67% and Wisconsin Central 33%. In February 2004, ATN was sold to Pacific National.
