Benedict Glacier

Benedict Glacier ( 79°25′N78°35′W / 79.417°N 78.583°W / 79.417; -78.583 ) is a glacier on central Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada.

Geologist William Herbert Hobbs wrote in 1911 the Benedict Glacier provided an "excellent" example of a "lateral glacial stream flowing between ice and rock". [1]

The Dater Glacier is a steep valley glacier in Antarctica, 24 nautical miles long and from 1 to 3 nautical miles wide, flowing northeast in a sinuous course from the eastern slopes of the Vinson Massif between Sullivan Heights and Veregava Ridge to Rutford Ice Stream which borders the eastern flank of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. At the lower end the Dater Glacier coalesces with the terminus of the Ellen Glacier, the two emerging from the Sentinel Range as one stream just north of the Flowers Hills.

From there, it continues east along the south side of Kukri Hills to New Harbor.

Apfel Glacier is a glacier about 5 nautical miles (10 km) wide and 20 nautical miles (40 km) long, flowing west-northwest along the south flank of the Bunger Hills and terminating in Edisto Ice Tongue. It was mapped from air photos taken by U.S. Navy Operation Highjump, 1946–47, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Earl T. Apfel, professor of geology at Syracuse University, who served as geologist with the U.S. Navy Operation Windmill parties, 1947–48, which established astronomical control stations along Queen Mary, Knox and Budd Coasts.

Balish Glacier is a glacier, 18 nautical miles (33 km) long, flowing north from the Soholt Peaks to enter Splettstoesser Glacier just northeast of Springer Peak, in the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Commander Daniel Balish, Executive Officer of U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6 during Operation Deep Freeze 1965, and Commanding Officer in 1967.

Patton Glacier is a broad tributary glacier in the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It drains the east slope of the main ridge between Mounts Ostenso and Tyree, flows east-northeastwards between Evans Peak and Versinikia Peak on the north and Mount Bearskin on the south, and enters Ellen Glacier northeast of Zalmoxis Peak and southeast of Mount Jumper.

Frazier Ridge is a sharp ridge on the west side of Webster Glacier, extending north from Founders Escarpment to Minnesota Glacier, in the Heritage Range of Antarctica. It was named by the University of Minnesota geological party, 1963–64, for Sergeant Herbert J. Frazier, a radioman with the 62nd Transportation Detachment who was of assistance to the party.

Henderson Glacier is a glacier approximately 7 nautical miles long in the Enterprise Hills of the Heritage Range, Antarctica. It flows northeast from Schoeck Peak and Hoinkes Peak to enter Union Glacier just east of Mount Rossman. Henderson Glacier was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos 1961–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Felix E. Henderson, a United States Antarctic Research Program meteorologist at Eights Station in 1965.

Kornicker Glacier is a glacier draining northeastwards from the cirque bounded by Mount Liptak, Mount Southwick, Mount Milton and Mount Mullen in the southern Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. The glacier flows along the northwestern side of Petvar Heights and merges with the terminus of the southeast-flowing Thomas Glacier as both glaciers emerge from the range.

Aster Glacier is an Antarctic glacier descending the east slope of Craddock Massif and flowing between Elfring Peak and Willis Ridge to Thomas Glacier in the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 2006, after Richard Aster, Professor of Geophysics and Department Head of Geosciences at Colorado State University, whose research in Antarctica includes volcanological studies at the Mount Erebus volcano observatory on Ross Island, glaciological, oceanic, and tectonic seismic source studies, seismic tomography, ice shelf studies, and the coupling of solid Earth geophysics and Antarctic ice sheet evolution.

Zapol Glacier is a steep valley glacier draining the west slope of Vinson Massif south of Silverstein Peak and Príncipe de Asturias Peak, and descending between Tulaczyk Glacier and Donnellan Glacier in the Sentinel Range, Antarctica. The glacier flows southwestward and leaving the range joins Nimitz Glacier south of Hodges Knoll.

Tulaczyk Glacier is a steep valley glacier draining the west slope of Vinson Massif southwest of Príncipe de Asturias Peak, and descending between Cairns Glacier and Zapol Glacier in the Sentinel Range, Antarctica. The glacier flows southwestward and leaving the range, together with Cairns Glacier joins Nimitz Glacier west of Hodges Knoll and southeast of Klenova Peak. It was named by US-ACAN (2006) after Slawek M. Tulaczyk, Earth Sciences, University of California, Santa Cruz; USAP researcher of West Antarctic ice streams from 1998.
