The area was constructed in 1939, and is a planned garden apartment community that incorporates recreational areas, open spaces, a swimming pool and courtyards within five superblocks. It also includes a shopping center consisting of six stores. The garden apartments are presented as two-story, brick rowhouses with Colonial Revival detailing. There are three building types distinguished by the roof form: flat, gambrel, or gable. Arlington Village was the first large-scale rental project in Arlington County and the first Federal Housing Administration-insured garden apartment development. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

The garden apartment complex was designed by architect Mihran Mesrobian according to the original standards promoted by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). The Lee Gardens North complex was completed in 1949–1950. The brick buildings are in the Colonial Revival style, with some fenestration elements influenced by the Art Deco and Moderne style.

It contains 18 contributing buildings in a residential neighborhood in South Arlington. The two- and three-story, brick garden apartment complex was built in 1948, in the Colonial Revival style. It was converted to condominiums in 1982–1984, and has 134 units, include 56 one bedroom units and 78 two-bedroom units in four clusters of buildings.

The neighborhood was constructed in five phases between 1939 and 1957: Westover Apartments, Westover Hills, Keene's Addition to Westover, Westover Park, and Mason's Addition to Westover. The neighborhood consists of Colonial Revival-style single-family dwellings, twin houses, duplexes, and multi-family garden apartments. Also in the district are a shopping center, the Claude A. Swanson Junior High School, the Westover Baptist Church, and Swanson Park.

It contains 238 contributing buildings in a residential neighborhood in South Arlington. They were built in two phases beginning in 1942 and ending in 1945, and consist of 233 single-family dwellings contracted by the Federal government to house the families of young officers and ranking officials. They are two-story, two- and three-bay, paired brick or concrete block dwellings in the Colonial Revival-style. They were built under the direction of the Army Corps of Engineers by the Defense Housing Corporation.
Glebe Center, also known as Glebe Shopping Center, is a historic shopping center located in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington County, Virginia. It was designed by noted Washington, D.C. architect Mihran Mesrobian and built in 1940. It is a one-story, L-shaped cinder-block building with a flat parapet roof and clad in a six-course, American-bond brick veneer with cast-stone decorative accents. It features large store-front windows, Art Deco decorative elements, and a central square tower surmounted by a glass-block clerestory capped by a pyramidal-shaped metal roof. It was built to serve the residents of the Buckingham apartment complex and Ashton Heights, as well as the many motorists traveling along Arlington Boulevard and North Glebe Road.
The Buckingham Historic District is a national historic district located at Arlington County, Virginia. It contains 151 contributing buildings in a residential neighborhood in North Arlington. They were built in six phases between 1937 and 1953, and primarily consist of two- and three-story, brick garden apartment buildings in the Colonial Revival-style. There is a single three-story brick building that was built in the International style. The buildings are arranged around U-shaped courtyards. The district also includes a community center, four single family dwellings, three commercial buildings and two commercial blocks.
Chamberlayne Gardens is a historic apartment complex located in Richmond, Virginia. The complex was built in 1945–1946, and consists of 52 Colonial Revival style brick buildings, attached in 16 groups. They have four building plans, are two to three stories in height and contain a total of 216 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The buildings alternate in either red or buff-colored brick, and have either a gabled slate roof or a flat roof with parapet ends capped with the original tile. The complex was designed by Norfolk architect Bernard Betzig Spigel and built under the auspices of the Federal Housing Administration.
The Wicker Apartments, later known as the Bellevue Apartments, are a historic apartment complex at 3905-4213 Chamberlain Avenue and 4210-4232 Old Brook Road in Richmond, Virginia. It is a well-preserved example of a garden apartment complex developed in the post-World War II years (1945–47) with funding support from the Federal Housing Administration. The complex includes sixteen two-story brick buildings with 144 housing units, set on spacious and handsomely landscaped property.
The English Gardens Apartments is a historic complex of apartment buildings located in Roanoke, Virginia. The complex was designed by the Richmond-based architect E. Tucker Carlton, and was built in two phases. The first, completed in 1947, consists of nine building of three stories each, while the second, finished in 1950, consists of eight buildings of two stories each. The complex was designed in the Colonial Revival style, and all buildings are constructed of concrete blocks fronted with brick.
