Crane Lake Township is a township in Saint Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The township was organized on June 18, 2002. [1] It had a population of 82 at the 2010 census. [2]

Saint Louis County Road 24 serves as a main route in the township. The unincorporated community of Crane Lake is located within Crane Lake Township.

The community is notable for being the southern entry to Voyageurs National Park. Crane Lake is also a western entry to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and an entry into Canada.

Crane Lake is mostly a resort and recreational area. It is known for walleye and smallmouth bass fishing. Having access to Sand Point Lake, Namakan, Loon, Lac La Croix, Ash River and Kabetogama makes this a large chain of lakes.

The official newspaper of Crane Lake Township is the Timberjay. [3] [4] The Timberjay is published weekly, with a circulation of over 1000. [5]

The Fond du Lac Indian Reservation is an Indian reservation in northern Minnesota near Cloquet in Carlton and Saint Louis counties. Off-reservation holdings are located across the state in Douglas County, in the northwest corner of Wisconsin. The total land area of these tribal lands is 154.49 square miles (400.1 km2). It is the land-base for the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Before the establishment of this reservation, the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa were located at the head of Lake Superior, closer to the mouth of the Saint Louis River, where Duluth has developed.
