Greenwich Pier is on the south bank of the River Thames in Greenwich, London. It was built in 1836 to cater for the many paddle steamers that brought visitors on day trips to Greenwich from London further up river. [1] At the time, London's urban area did not extend as far out as Greenwich.

Contents

The pier is currently owned by London River Services and is used by various river operators, running public cruise services to and from Central London. It is immediately adjacent to the Cutty Sark and is within easy walking distance of a variety of other popular attractions. It was refurbished in 2004 and again in March 2018. [2] [3]

Decommissioned and removed in late 2019. The Savoy Pier was located just to the south of the Savoy Hotel on the river Thames, and not far from the site of the old Savoy Wharf. The pier was the first central London base of Woods River Cruises Ltd. The pier was designed by Beckett Rankine in 1998 as a temporary structure and is an unusual design being restrained by transverse radial arms and longitudinal mooring cables. The contractor was Downtown Marine Construction who have since ceased trading.
