The NH series of Honda scooters was sold worldwide beginning in 1983, in 50, 80, 90, 100 and 125cc versions. All models have an air-cooled two-stroke engine with CDI ignition. All models except the Lead 50 have leading link front suspension, electric and kick start, and a fuel gauge. The Lead 50 has a traditional telescopic fork front suspension and only electric start. All models have drum brakes and CVT transmission.

Models

American regulations in 1986 required any motorcycle over 50cc to be four stroke to combat air pollution.

There is also a more modern Lead in 100cc, 110cc and 125cc versions.

Regional variations

There were other regional variations as well as going by a different name in the USA. Most notably, the headlights were different on the early European models. The front handlebar moulding was later changed to be common across all models, allowing the same headlights to be used. Although the specific light arrangements still vary because of the regulations in different countries (indicators in different locations) Stickers, badges and mirrors are also different across regional versions.

Honda Dio

Manufactured by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Honda Dio is a 110cc scooter introduced in 2001 in India and exported with the same brand name to 11 countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mexico and Columbia. [1] It has a 110cc, 4 stroke, air cooled engine and has both electric start and kick start. [2] It's tank can hold 6 Litres of Petrol with 1 litre in reserve. [3] India Today magazine named Honda Dio as the 4th most selling Scooter in June 2021. [4] Honda India introduced Dio Repsol, a sporty looking scooter introduced to celebrate 800 victories in MotoGP. Other manufacturers

During the 1980s, Honda invested in non-Japanese motorcycle manufacturing – most notably they bought a large percentage of French company Peugeot, which resulted in Peugeot Motocycles. Elsewhere, the Kinetic Motor Company from India, which resulted in Kinetic Honda. Both of these joint ventures saw the NH series given various degrees of cosmetic overhaul and released as a number of different models. Peugeot released the SC series (SC 50, SC 50L, SC 80L and SX 80L) whilst Kinetic Honda released the EX, DX, ZX (100cc, 2-stroke), the ZX Zoom (110cc, 2-stroke) and the 4S model (113.5cc, 4-stroke).

Kinetic Honda was a joint venture between Kinetic Engineering Limited, India and Honda Motor Company, Japan. Kinetic was the first company to have a joint venture with HMSI. The partnership operated from 1984 to 1998, manufacturing two-stroke scooters in India. In 1998, the joint venture was terminated after which Kinetic Engineering continued to sell the models under the brand name Kinetic until 2008 when the interests were sold to Mahindra. Mahindra later wound up their two wheeler business, owing to poor sales.

Sanyang Motor Co., Ltd. is a Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer headquartered in Hukou, Taiwan. Founded in Taipei, Taiwan in 1954 by Huang Chi-Chun and Chang Kuo An, SYM currently has three major production facilities in Taiwan, mainland China, and Vietnam. SYM manufactures and sells scooters, motorcycles and ATVs under the Sanyang Motor [SYM] brand, while it also manufactures automobiles and mini-trucks under the Hyundai brand.

TVS Motor Company is an Indian multinational motorcycle manufacturer headquartered in Chennai. It is the third-largest motorcycle company in India in terms of revenue just after the Hero Motorcorp and Honda Motorcyle and Scooter India (HMSI). The company has annual sales of three million units and an annual production capacity of over four million vehicles. TVS Motor Company is also the second largest two-wheeler exporter in India with exports to over 60 countries.

Beta is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer, specialising in off-road motorcycles. Beta is best known for their popular observed trials bikes. In 2005, they launched a range of enduro motorcycles using KTM engines. In 2010 they launched the new RR series, with a new engine made in-house. Beta motorcycles have been used by world trials champions such as Jordi Tarrés, Dougie Lampkin, Albert Cabestany and Enduro riders Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman. Production in 2018 was expected to be in excess of 20,000 motorcycles, ranging in size from 50 cc to 480 cc.

The Honda Activa is a motor scooter made by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI). It was launched in India in May 1999. Production in Mexico began in 2004. It is a 109/125 cc, 7 bhp (5.2 kW) scooter. The vehicle has the option of kick- and self-start.

Flyscooters, formerly known under the name Znen, was an American company that marketed gas-powered motor scooters manufactured in China and Taiwan. The company was founded in 2006 in Florida by scooter enthusiasts Leon Li and Daniel Pak, and ceased operations in 2010. During the operating life of the company, Flyscooters' basic business model was to import low-cost scooters from abroad and distribute them under the Fly brand name to a network of retail scooter dealerships across the United States, providing dealers with warranty and spare parts support.

The Dream Yuga is a 109 cc (6.7 cu in) single-cylinder motorcycle manufactured by Honda's Indian subsidiary HMSI, starting production in 2012. It was announced by Honda in January 2012 at the Delhi Auto Expo, and was available to consumers in India in May 2012. At 44,642 Indian Rupees, the motorcycle is billed as one of the least expensive Honda motorcycle currently produced, and the least expensive Honda motorcycle ever made, adjusting for inflation.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">TVS Jupiter</span> Type of motorcycle

TVS Jupiter is a variomatic scooter launched in September 2013 by India's TVS Motor Company. The launch of the scooter marked the company's entry into the part of the market that mainly targets females. This Variomatic Scooter is launched as a rival for Honda Activa.
