Central House is an 1860s hotel building located in the 800-person village of Orangeville, in Stephenson County, Illinois, United States. The building was built by Orangeville founder John Bower and operated as a hotel from its construction until the 1930s, when it was converted for use as a single family residence. The three-story building was the first commercial brick structure in downtown Orangeville. Architecturally, the building is cast in a mid-19th-century Italianate style. Central House was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
Arlington is a historic Federal style house and outbuildings in Natchez, Mississippi. The 55-acre (22 ha) property, which includes three contributing buildings, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It was further declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974. Following a fire that destroyed much of the main house, it was placed on Mississippi's 10 most endangered historic places for 2009 by the Mississippi Heritage Trust.
The Battle House Hotel, now known as The Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa, is a historic hotel building in Mobile, Alabama. The current building was built in 1908 and is the second hotel to stand in this location, replacing an earlier Battle House that was built in 1852 and burned down in 1905. It is one of the earliest steel frame structures in Alabama.
The historic Buena Vista Hotel in Safford, Arizona was built in 1928 at cost of $80,000. The 2-story, 46-room hotel was built by Fred and Minta Waughtal, who owned the nearby Olive Hotel, and opened Oct. 15, 1929. It featured swimming pool and two bars; the Tap Room, and the Matador Room, which both featured live music and entertainment, including jazz and country and western music. The hotel closed in 1979 and was damaged in a fire. The building was demolished in 1994.
The Manning–Kamna Farm is a private farm adjacent to Hillsboro in Washington County, Oregon, United States. Settled in the 1850s, ten buildings built between 1883 and 1930 still stand, including the cross-wing western farmhouse. These ten structures comprise the buildings added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 as an example of a farm in the region from the turn of the 20th century. Until the 1950s the farm was used to grow seeds, including rye grass and vetch. Listed buildings on the property include a barn, smokehouse, pumphouse, woodshed, and privy.
The Skinner-Tinkham House, commonly known as the Barre Center Tavern, is located at Maple Street and Oak Orchard Road in Barre Center, New York, United States. It is a brick house in the Federal style built around 1830. It was renovated after the Civil War, which brought some Italianate touches to it.
James Sanders House is a historic home located at Little Falls in Herkimer County, New York. The house is a two-story, gable-roofed brick residence, five bays long and two bays wide, originally constructed in 1827. It consists of a rectangular main block with a two-story brick rear wing. It features a center hall plan and Federal-style decorative elements. Also on the property are a frame, gable-roofed carriage barn and garage/agricultural equipment barn. James Sanders was a local building contractor who also built a number of mills, residences, and civic buildings including the original Little Falls Academy.
The house at 365 Main Street, formerly 116 Main Street in Highland Falls, New York, United States, is an Italian Villa style building dating to the mid-19th century. It may have originally been built as the rectory for the nearby Church of the Holy Innocents.
Rhinecliff Hotel is a historic hotel located at Rhinecliff, Dutchess County, New York. It was built about 1855 and is a two to three story, "L" shaped frame building. It is built into the side of a steep hill and features a two-story verandah and cross-gable roof. Also on the property is a contributing carriage shed / garage.
The Dallas County Courthouse in Adel, Iowa, United States was built in 1902. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and is a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource. In 2009 it was included as a contributing property in the Adel Public Square Historic District. The current structure is the fourth building to house court functions and county administration.
The J. Monroe Parker–Ficke House is a historic building located in the College Square Historic District in Davenport, Iowa, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The house was individually listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 2003.
Woeber Carriage Works, also known as the G. Hager & Co. Carriage Works and the Davenport Plow Works, is a historic building located on Lot 3, Block 20 of the original town of Davenport, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties on November 15, 2000. In 2020 it was included as a contributing property in the Davenport Downtown Commercial Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
Penn's Cave House is a historic structure, once used as a hotel from 1885 until 1919. It is located on the property of Penn's Cave & Wildlife Park at Gregg Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania. It is now used strictly for offices for Penn's Cave, Inc., and has not offered overnight or hotel accommodations since 1919. The Penn's Cave property includes seven contributing buildings, one contributing site, and two contributing structures. Penn's Cave House was built in 1885, and is a three-story, seven-bay, frame building with a high mansard roof. It sits on a limestone foundation. It was extensively remodeled in 1938, and again in 1960. A one-story, rear wing was added in 1962, and was a coffee shop for cave visitors until 1980, when the Penn's Cave Visitors Center was built and opened. In 1980, it became a private residence. Its upper floors are used for corporate offices, private meetings and special events.
Colonial Theatre, also known as the Lochiel Hotel, is a historic theater and commercial building located at Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The building consists of a five-story, brick and frame front section and a rear brick and frame auditorium. The original Colonial Theatre was built about 1836, as a hotel in the Greek Revival style and featured a four columned portico on the Market Street entrance. It was subsequently modified in form and use a number of times. In the 1870s, a mansard roof was added. The rear auditorium was added in 1912, when the building was converted from a hotel to hotel and movie / vaudeville theater. The lobby was remodeled in the 1930s / 1940s in an Art Deco style; the auditorium has Italian Renaissance style detailing. The theater and hotel closed in 1976, and the building used for offices and shops.
West Side Sanitarium, also known as West Side Osteopathic Hospital, is a historic sanitarium complex located at West York, York County, Pennsylvania. The complex consists of four buildings: two large medical buildings and two residences. The Sanitarium was originally built as a hotel in 1905, and doubled in size in 1924, with an addition and rear ell. It is a 3 1⁄2-story, Dutch Colonial Revival-style brick-and-frame building with a gambrel roof. It measures approximately 110 feet wide and 31 feet deep. The Nurses' Home and Sanitarium Annex was built in 1924, also in the Dutch Colonial Revival-style. It is a 3 1⁄2-story, 28-foot-wide by 30-foot-deep, frame building, expanded in 1931, with a 4-story rear addition measuring 25 feet wide by 34 feet deep. It features a one-story full-width porch with Tuscan order columns. The Doctors' Home and Dr. Meisenhelder's Home and Office were built in 1905, and are in a vernacular Queen Anne style. They are 2 1⁄2 stories tall with cross-gabled, slate-covered roofs and each measure about 20 feet wide by 40 feet deep. Three of the four buildings are connected via tunnels. The hospital remained in operation until 1962, after which the buildings housed a business college then home to the Aquarian Church of Universal Service.
The Arizona Rancho, also known as the Higgins House, Brunswick Hotel and Arizona Hotel, is a former hotel in Holbrook, Arizona. It was originally built between 1881 and 1883 as a residence, the expanded as a boarding house, a hotel, and finally as a motel. The original structure is thought to be the oldest extant structure in Holbrook.
Morven is a historic home located near Simeon, Albemarle County, Virginia. It was built about 1821, and consists of a two-story, five bay by two bay, brick main block with a two-story, three bay brick wing. The front facade features a one-bay porch with a pedimented gable roof and Tuscan order entablature, supported by four Tuscan columns. Also on the property are the contributing office and frame smokehouse.
Jonesville Store is a historic general store located at Jonesville, Saratoga County, New York. It was built about 1860, and expanded about 1900. It consists of a 2 1⁄2-story front block with a two-story rear block. The frame building is sheathed in clapboard and has a gable roof. It sits on a brick over limestone foundation. The three-bay front facade features a one-story full-width porch. The building once housed a store and post office, and remains a retail outlet and popular community gathering place.
Sinclair, Rooney & Co. Building, also known as the Remington Rand Building and Sperry-Rand Building, is a historic building located in downtown Buffalo, Erie County, New York. It was designed by the architecture firm Esenwein & Johnson and built between 1909 and 1911. The building is representative of Commercial Style architecture. The six-story, steel frame and concrete, "L"-shaped building is clad in yellow brick and consists of a rectangular main block, approximately 60-feet by 164-feet, with an extension of approximately 30-feet by 63-feet. It features brick pilasters that extend to the sixth floor, where they are capped by ornamental brick brackets and dentil molding below the roofline. It was built for Sinclair, Rooney, & Co., wholesale milliners, and later occupied by Remington Rand Corporation and its successor Sperry-Rand. The building housed offices and light manufacturing activities.
Lentz House is a historic hotel located at North Manchester, Wabash County, Indiana. It was built in 1881, and is a 2 1/2-story, rectangular, Second Empire style brick building. The third story was added in 1896 and attached to the main building is a two-story frame wing built in 1847. It has a mansard roof with dormers and features a wraparound porch.
