In Walked Sonny is an album by American jazz musicians Sonny Stitt and Art Blakey with The Jazz Messengers. It was released in 1975 on the small independent label Sonet Records and is among the most obscure recordings made by the musicians involved in the project.

Walter Davis Jr. was an American bebop and hard bop pianist.
William Franklin Hardman Jr. was an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist who chiefly played hard bop. He was married to Roseline and they had a daughter Nadege.
Edward Hammond Boatner Jr.,known professionally as Sonny Stitt,was an American jazz saxophonist of the bebop/hard bop idiom. Known for his warm tone,he was one of the best-documented saxophonists of his generation,recording more than 100 albums. He was nicknamed the "Lone Wolf" by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern because of his tendency to rarely work with the same musicians for long despite his relentless touring and devotion to jazz. Stitt was sometimes viewed as a Charlie Parker mimic,especially earlier in his career,but gradually came to develop his own sound and style,particularly when performing on tenor saxophone and even occasionally baritone saxophone.
John Arnold Griffin III was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Nicknamed "the Little Giant" for his short stature and forceful playing,Griffin's career began in the mid-1940s and continued until the month of his death. A pioneering figure in hard bop,Griffin recorded prolifically as a bandleader in addition to stints with pianist Thelonious Monk,drummer Art Blakey,in partnership with fellow tenor Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and as a member of the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band after he moved to Europe in the 1960s. In 1995,Griffin was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music.
