Jiading is a suburban district of Shanghai. As of the 2020 Chinese census,it had a population of 1,834,258. [1]
Jiading was historically a separate polity from Shanghai until it came under the administration of Shanghai in 1958. In 1993,Jiading's designation was changed from a county to a district within Shanghai. [2]
During the early Qing dynasty,which overlapped with the Southern Ming,the municipality was infamous for the "Jiading Massacre" carried out by invading Qing forces led by the general Li Chengdong ,who had defected from the bandits. [3] [4] Jiading was also known for banditry:in a 1853 rebellion caused by taxation,bandits captured the city and then Shanghai. [5]
In 2005,the Jiading district government invested CN¥10 million to build the Shanghai Museum of the Imperial Examination System. [6]
Jiading district is located in the northwestern part of Shanghai. It stretches across 463.9 km2 (179.1 sq mi). It is located about 20 km (12 mi) from downtown Shanghai.
Jiading has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa). The average annual temperature in Jiading is 16.3 °C (61.3 °F). The average annual rainfall is 1,139.8 mm (44.87 in) with July as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in July,at around 28.2 °C (82.8 °F),and lowest in January,at around 4.0 °C (39.2 °F).

Shanghai University has a campus in downtown Jiading,which is where SILC is based.
The Shanghai International Circuit is located in Jiading. Each year in April,the Shanghai International Circuit holds the Chinese Grand Prix.
Shanghai Jiading F.C. is the district's local soccer club.
There are numerous international hotels within the Jiading district. Among the most famous are Sheraton Shanghai Jiading Hotel and the Crowne Plaza Shanghai Anting,the latter one being the first five star international hotel in Jiading.
Jiading district is connected to downtown Shanghai by the Hujia Expressway,the first expressway in China. Jiading district is near Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport,but across town from Pudong International Airport.

Anting is a town in Jiading District,Shanghai,bordering Kunshan,Jiangsu to the west. It has 96,000 inhabitants and,after the July 2009 merger of Huangdu (黄渡镇),an area of 89.28 km2 (34.47 sq mi).
Shangzhi is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Harbin,the capital of Heilongjiang province,People's Republic of China. It is 127 kilometres (79 mi) away from central Harbin and has an area of approximately 9,000 km2 (3,500 sq mi). The city proper has a population of around 120,000,while the total administrative population is approximately 600,000 inhabitants. The most spacious county-level division of Harbin City,it borders Yanshou County to the north,Wuchang to the southwest,Acheng District to the northwest,and Bin County to the northwest,as well as the prefecture-level city of Mudanjiang to the southeast.

Zhangwu County is a county in the north of Liaoning province,China. It is under the administration of Fuxin City,the centre of which lies 82 kilometres (51 mi) to the southwest,with a population of 410,000 residing in an area of 3,635 km2 (1,403 sq mi). Nenjiang City,formerly Nenjiang County,is a county-level city under the administration of Heihe prefecture-level city in northwestern Heilongjiang province,China. Changyang Tujia Autonomous County or in Tujia language known as Changryangf Bifzivkar Zivzirxianf is an autonomous county in western Hubei province,People's Republic of China. It is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yichang.
Jianping is a county in the west of Liaoning province,China,bordering Inner Mongolia to the north,west,and northeast. It is under the administration of Chaoyang City,the urban centre of which is more than 65 km (40 mi) to the east. The population is approximately 580,000.
