The Kuala Terengganu City Council (Malay : Majlis Bandaraya Kuala Terengganu, abbreviated MBKT) is the city council which administers Kuala Terengganu City and Kuala Nerus District in the state of Terengganu, Malaysia. This council was established after the city was officially granted city status on 1 January 2008. Their jurisdiction covers an area of 605 square kilometres 1928 as Kuala Terengganu Sanitary Board, 1950 as Kuala Terengganu Town Board, 1979 as Kuala Terengganu Municipal Council, 2008 as Kuala Terengganu City Council.
The council consists of the mayor plus twenty-four councillors appointed to serve a one-year term by the Terengganu State Government.

MBKT Tower, formerly known as Darul Iman Tower is a 30-story, 140.8-meter-tall government office building located in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. It is the East Coast Economic Region's sixth-tallest building, and serves as the headquarters of the Kuala Terengganu City Council. It is also located besides the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge.

Sultan Sir Ismail Nasiruddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Zainal Abidin III Mu’azzam Shah was the Sultan of Terengganu from 1945 until his death in 1979, and the fourth Yang di-Pertuan Agong,, from 1965 to 1970.

He served as Leader of the Opposition from July 2002 to March 2004, Menteri Besar of Terengganu from December 1999 to March 2004 and Member of the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Ru Rendang from 1986 until 2018. Kuala Terengganu by-election of 2009 was held on 17 January 2009 after the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Razali Ismail. In the 2008 election, Datuk Razali won by a slim 628 vote majority, defeating Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) heavyweight Mohamad Sabu and 89-year-old independent candidate, Maimun Yusuf. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Barisan Nasional were confident that Barisan Nasional would retain the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat. The Prime Minister had rejected the assumption that there would be a big swing by the voters to the Opposition. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim stated that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) would support any candidate that PAS picked. He was optimistic that Pakatan Rakyat would win in Kuala Terengganu if all its coalition parties worked hard against Barisan Nasional. In the 2008 election Razali, a government minister of the UMNO party, defeated a PAS opposition candidate by 628 votes. For the by-election PAS nominated state assemblyman Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut, while Barisan Nasional nominated Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh. Mohd Abdul won the by-election by 2,631 votes.

Ahmad Amzad bin Hashim is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuala Terengganu from May 2018 to June 2023 and again since August 2023. He served as the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Minister Adham Baba from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and the first term in Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Minister Khairy Jamaluddin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021. He is a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the PN coalition.
Mohd Khairuddin bin Aman Razali is a Malaysian politician who has served as Religious Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi since March 2023. He served as the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuala Nerus from May 2013 to November 2022. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and was an independent as well as member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of the PN coalition. On 14 March 2022, Khairuddin left PAS effective immediately and later joined UMNO. He is also the Executive Secretary of the Ulama Council of UMNO.
