Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB; Malay : Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru) is the city council which administrates Johor Bahru city centre and other areas of the Iskandar Malaysia area in Johor, Malaysia. This agency is under Johor state government. MBJB are responsible for public health and sanitation, waste removal and management, town planning, environmental protection and building control, social and economic development and general maintenance functions of urban infrastructure.

History

Formerly known as Town Board since 1933, Town Council since 1950 and Johor Bahru Municipal Council since April 1977, Johor Bahru was granted city status on 1 January 1994. [1]

Dato' Sir Onn bin Dato' Jaafar was a Malayan politician who served as the 7th Menteri Besar of Johor from 1947 to 1950. His organised opposition towards the creation of the Malayan Union led him to form the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in 1946; he was UMNO's founder and its first president until his resignation in 1951. He was famously known as the pioneer of organised anti-imperialism and early Malay nationalism within Malaya, which eventually culminated with the Malayan independence from Britain. He was also responsible for the social and economic welfare of the Malays by setting up the Rural Industrial Development Authority (RIDA).

The 23 km (14 mi) highway connects Iskandar Puteri in the west to Johor Bahru in the east. It is a toll free highway and part of the Iskandar Malaysia project. The Iskandar Coastal Highway is the fifth east–west-oriented expressway in the Iskandar Malaysia area after the Pasir Gudang Highway, the Pontian–Johor Bahru Link of the Second Link Expressway, the Senai–Desaru Expressway and the Johor Bahru East Coast Highway.

Bandar Nusa Bayu or Nusa Bayu, is a township in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. The township is bordered by Setia Eco Gardens and Jelutong Hills forest to the north, Second Link Expressway to the west, Nusajaya Southern Industry Logistic Center (SILC) to the south, and GP Prima Transport Hub to the east. The township is part of the Iskandar Malaysia Flagship B and the Iskandar Puteri Master Plan. Formerly in the Nusajaya Master Plan, Nusa Bayu was known as Nusajaya Industrial Park, together with SILC. The development commenced in 2010 and began to be occupied since 2013 onward.
