Legislative districts of Lanao del Norte

The legislative districts of Lanao del Norte are the representations of the province of Lanao del Norte in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The province is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first and second congressional districts.

The highly urbanized city of Iligan last formed part of its representation in 2010.

History

Prior to gaining separate representation, areas now under the jurisdiction of Lanao del Norte were represented under the Department of Mindanao and Sulu (1917–1935) and the historical Lanao Province (1935–1961).

The enactment of Republic Act No. 2228 on 22 May 1959 divided the old Lanao Province into Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, and provided them each with a congressional representative. [1] In accordance with Section 8 of R.A. 2228, the incumbent representative of Lanao Province, Laurentino Badelles, continued to represent both successor provinces until the next general election in 1961. [1] The chartered city of Iligan, despite being enumerated as part of the territory of neither successor province, [1] was designated as Lanao del Norte's seat of provincial government and became part of its congressional representation.

Lanao del Norte was represented in the Interim Batasang Pambansa as part of Region XII from 1978 to 1984. The province returned one representative, elected at large, to the Regular Batasang Pambansa in 1984. Iligan, declared a highly urbanized city in 1983, separately elected its own representative in this election.

Under the new Constitution [2] which was proclaimed on 11 February 1987, Lanao del Norte was once more grouped with Iligan and reapportioned into two congressional districts, which elected their respective members to the restored House of Representatives starting that same year.

The passage of Republic Act No. 9724 on October 20, 2009, segregated the highly urbanized city of Iligan from the first district of Lanao del Norte to form its own congressional district starting in the 2010 elections. [3] Republic Act No. 9774, enacted on November 17, 2009, further reapportioned Lanao del Norte's districts by transferring the municipalities of Baloi, Matungao, Pantar and Tagoloan from the second to the first district. [4] The reconfigured districts elected their representatives beginning in the 2010 elections.

The legislative districts of Iligan are the representations of the highly urbanized city of Iligan in the Congress of the Philippines. The city is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress through its lone congressional district.

The legislative district of Lanao was the representation of the historical province of Lanao in the various national legislatures of the Philippines until 1969. Marawi and Iligan also remained part of the province's representation even after becoming chartered cities in 1940 and 1950, respectively.

The legislative districts of Lanao del Sur are the representations of the province of Lanao del Sur in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The province is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first and second congressional districts.

Iligan's at-large congressional district is the congressional district of the Philippines in Iligan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 2010, and in the Batasang Pambansa in 1984 to 1986. Previously included in Lanao del Norte's 1st congressional district from 1987 to 2010, and in Lanao del Norte's at-large congressional district prior to 1984, it includes all barangays of the city. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Celso G. Regencia of the PDP-Laban party.

Lanao del Norte's at-large congressional district is an obsolete congressional district that encompassed the entire territory of Lanao del Norte in the Philippines. It was represented in the House of Representatives from 1961 to 1972 and in the Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986. The province of Lanao del Norte was created as a result of the division of Lanao in 1959 and elected its first representative provincewide at-large during the 1961 Philippine House of Representatives elections. Laurentino Lluch Badelles who served as representative of Lanao's at-large congressional district during the partition was elected as this district's first representative. The district remained a single-member district until the dissolution of the lower house in 1972. It was later absorbed by the multi-member Region XII's at-large district for the national parliament in 1978. In 1984, provincial and city representations were restored and Lanao del Norte returned one member for the regular parliament with a separate representation created for its highly-urbanized city of Iligan. The district was abolished following the 1987 reapportionment that established two districts in the province under a new constitution.

Lanao del Norte's 1st congressional district is a congressional district in the province of Lanao del Norte that has been used in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1987. The district's boundaries have been redrawn twice, originally consisting of seven municipalities and one city lining the coast of Iligan Bay in 1987, then losing the highly-urbanized city of Iligan to its own separate district in October 2009, and finally with eleven municipalities including its capital, Tubod, since the second reapportionment in November 2009. The district is currently represented in the 18th Congress by Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo of the PDP–Laban.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lanao del Norte's 2nd congressional district</span>

Lanao del Norte's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district in the province of Lanao del Norte that has been used in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1987. The district's boundaries have only been redrawn once, originally consisting of fifteen southern and interior municipalities, three of which bordered Panguil Bay and Moro Gulf, which were reduced to eleven municipalities following a reapportionment in November 2009. The district is currently represented in the 18th Congress by Abdullah D. Dimaporo of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
