List of Belgian supercentenarians

Belgian supercentenarians are citizens, residents or emigrants from Belgium who have attained or surpassed 110 years of age. The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) has validated the longevity claims of 20 Belgian supercentenarians, including 18 residents and 2 emigrants. [1] [2]

Contents

The oldest known Belgian person was Joanna Deroover, who died in 2002 aged 112 years 186 days. [3] The oldest Belgian man ever was Jan Machiel Reyskens, who lived 111 years and 241 days from 1878 to 1990. [3]

Oldest Belgian people ever

The list including known and validated supercentenarians who died before 2015 was compiled by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). [3] Later cases were sourced either from more recent GRG data, [2] from administrative reports or from press coverage, as indicated in the table.

Paula Marckx was a Belgian life model, journalist and pilot. She was also the plaintiff in Marckx v Belgium. In that landmark case Belgium was convicted in 1979 of unequal treatment of extra-marital children in the law of ancestry and inheritance by the European Court of Human Rights.

Albert Bers was a Belgian football player and coach. He became the first coach of the Belgium women's national football team in 1976 and was the coach until 1990. He became also coach of several Belgian clubs, including K.R.C. Mechelen. He was footballer for among others Sint-Truidense V.V.

Werner Ferdinande, known as Will Ferdy, was a Belgian singer. He became known for the songs Christine, Belijdenis, De stervende, Ziede gij me gere, and Het Schrijverke, which is a song, based on the poet Het Schrijverke with the same name, by Guido Gezelle. He was a figurehead within the gay community, because he was the first Flemish singer to come out. He received the Gay Krant award in 2006. Earlier in his career, Ferdy was also active as a comedian.

René Snelders was a Belgian footballer and businessman. He played as a defender.

Jan Krol was a Dutch television actor.

Henricus Petrus Jacobus (Jaak) Broekx was a Belgian centenarian. From 9 September 2021 until his death on 31 October 2023, he was the oldest living man in Belgium. He was nine months away from being a supercentenarian.
