Mattesia is a genus of parasitic alveolates of the phylum Apicomplexa. Species in this genus infect insects ( Coleoptera , Hymenoptera , Lepidoptera and Siphonaptera ).
The genus was created in 1930 by Naville. [1]
There are eight recognised species in this genus.
The type species is Mattesia geminata.
This genus is a synonym of Coelogregarina Ghélélovitch, 1948.
Mattesia bombi has been moved to a new genus — Apicystis bombi .
The sap beetles, also known as Nitidulidae, are a family of beetles.
Tiger beetles are a family of beetles, Cicindelidae, known for their aggressive predatory habits and running speed. The fastest known species of tiger beetle, Rivacindela hudsoni, can run at a speed of 9 km/h, or about 125 body lengths per second. As of 2005, about 2,600 species and subspecies were known, with the richest diversity in the Oriental (Indo-Malayan) region, followed by the Neotropics. While historically treated as a subfamily of ground beetles (Carabidae) under the name Cicindelinae, several studies since 2020 indicated that they should be treated as a family, the Cicindelidae, which are a sister group to Carabidae within the Adephaga.
Passalidae is a family of beetles known variously as "bessbugs", "bess beetles", "betsy beetles" or "horned passalus beetles". Nearly all of the 500-odd species are tropical; species found in North America are notable for their size, ranging from 20 to 43 mm, for having a single "horn" on the head, and for a form of social behavior unusual among beetles.
Nosema is a genus of microsporidian parasites. The genus, circumscribed by Swiss botanist Carl Nägeli in 1857, contains 81 species. Most parasitise insects and other arthropods, and the best-known Nosema species parasitise honeybees, where they are considered a significant disease by beekeepers, often causing a colony to fail to thrive in the spring as they come out of their overwintering period. Eight species parasitize digeneans, a group of parasitic flatworms, and thus are hyperparasites, i.e., parasites of a parasite.
Moneilema, or cactus longhorn beetles are a genus of large, flightless, black beetles found in North American deserts of the western United States and northern Mexico. M. gigas is native to the Sonoran Desert at elevations below 4900 feet (1500m). The front wings of these beetles are fused forming a single, hardened shell, from which the genus derives its Latin name. The genus includes twenty species.
Dineutus is a genus of beetles in the family Gyrinidae, the whirligig beetles. They are 9 to 15 millimeters long. Their elytra are smooth, shallowly lined, or grooved.
Teldenia is a genus of moths belonging to the subfamily Drepaninae.
C. grandis may refer to:
Lebia grandis is a ground beetle in the family Carabidae found in North America. It is a specialist predator on the eggs and larvae of Colorado potato beetles, and its larvae are obligate parasitoids of Colorado potato beetle pupae.
Hydrocanthus is a genus of beetles in the family Noteridae, containing the following species:
Zeuzeropecten is a genus of moths of the family Cossidae.
Niphopterolophia geminata is a species of beetle in the family Cerambycidae, and the only species in the genus Niphopterolophia. It was described by Stephan von Breuning in 1964.
Eupterote is a genus of moths in the family Eupterotidae. It was first described by Jacob Hübner in 1820.
Apicystis is a genus of parasitic alveolates of the phylum Apicomplexa.
Pseudohylesinus is a genus of crenulate bark beetles in the family Curculionidae. There are at least 20 described species in Pseudohylesinus.
Trirhabda is a genus of skeletonizing leaf beetles in the family Chrysomelidae. There are more than 30 described species in Trirhabda. They are found in North America and Mexico.
Rybaxis is a genus of ant-loving beetles in the family Staphylinidae. There are at least 20 described species in Rybaxis.
Litargus is a genus of hairy fungus beetles in the family Mycetophagidae. There are at least 20 described species in Litargus.
Stelidota geminata, the strawberry sap beetle, is a species of sap-feeding beetle in the family Nitidulidae. It is found in Central America, North America, Oceania, South America, Europe, and temperate Asia.
Selatosomus is a genus of beetles belonging to the family Elateridae. The species of this genus are found in Europe, Japan, southern Africa and North America, and most of the species were formerly included in the genus Ctenicera.
