Project CARS was a sim racing video game series developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The franchise was introduced in 2015 and received a sequel in 2017, followed by Project CARS 3 in 2020. Following the acquisition of Codemasters by Electronic Arts, the Project CARS IP was later shutdown in 2022.

The first video game of the series was initially released on 6 May 2015. It was available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. [10] A complete edition, titled Project CARS Game of the Year Edition, was launched on 6 May 2016. [11] The game was generally well received upon release, and had sold 2 million copies as of October 2016. [12]
Project CARS 2 was announced as the sequel after the success of Project CARS . It features 140 track layouts at 60 different spots and 189 cars ranging from go-karts to Supercars, including Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, Nissan, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, etc. [13] It was available worldwide on 22 September 2017 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. [14] [15] The game received positive reviews, and won the Best Simulation Game award of Gamescom 2017. [16] [17]
Project CARS 3 was announced in December 2018. [18] In November 2019, Slightly Mad Studios, the developer of the franchise, was acquired by Codemasters, British video game developer and publisher known for Formula One series, Colin McRae Rally and Dirt, TOCA and Grid series, which means Codemasters now holds the rights to the Project CARS titles. [19] Unlike previous games, it features arcade style gameplay and was created as a spiritual successor to Need for Speed: Shift . The game was released on 28 August 2020. [20] [21]
In May 2018, Slightly Mad Studios announced the spin-off title Project CARS GO for mobile devices, which is being co-developed by Gamevil. Like the main series, it would feature licensed cars and vehicle customisation. [22] It was not until February 2021 when Gamevil confirms they would launch the game for Android and iOS devices on 23 March 2021. [23] Prior to launch, the game had an open beta period for Android users in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands from 26 January until 11 March. [24]
The series was set for a fourth title sometime in 2024 but this was eventually cancelled by its owner Electronic Arts in November 2022. [25]
The Codemasters Software Company Limited is a British video game developer based in Southam, England, which is a subsidiary of American corporation Electronic Arts and managed under its EA Sports division. Founded by brothers Richard and David Darling in October 1986, Codemasters is one of the oldest British game studios, and in 2005 was named the best independent video game developer by magazine Develop. It formerly also published third-party games.

Frontier develops amusement park management simulators Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo, and has produced several games in David Braben's Elite series, including Elite Dangerous. The company takes its name from the earliest titles in the Elite series with which it was involved, a port of Frontier: Elite II and development of Frontier: First Encounters. In 2013, the company was listed on the AIM segment of the London Stock Exchange. It published third-party games under the Frontier Foundry label between 2019 and 2022.
Dirt and Dirt Rally, is a rally racing video game series developed and published by Codemasters. Codemasters had acquired the exclusive license to the World Rally Championship series in June 2020, which will begin as a five-year deal in 2023.
TOCA Race Driver 3 is a racing video game developed and published by Codemasters for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, PlayStation Portable and OS X. It is the sixth game in the TOCA series. The game features several fully licensed championships, including the DTM series and V8 Supercar championship. This is the last in the series to have TOCA in its title as following on from this TOCA was dropped in favour of just Race Driver. Despite featuring the name TOCA in its title, the game did not feature the British Touring Car Championship. The game received positive reviews, frequently being compared favourably to Gran Turismo 4 and Forza Motorsport, in the aspects of cars on track, collision and wear damage.
Race Driver: Grid is a 2008 racing video game developed and published by Codemasters for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, arcade, Java ME and OS X. It is the first game in the Grid series.
Fuel is an open world racing video game developed by Asobo Studio and published by Codemasters. The game was released in 2009 in North America on June 2 and Europe on June 5 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and July 5 for Windows. It is set in a post-apocalyptic United States after the Sun scorched the Earth, with a completely free-to-roam open world approximately 5,560 square miles (14,400 km2) in size, which is roughly the size of the U.S. state of Connecticut. In the free roaming mode, the game features the ability to drive anywhere in the game world without incurring loading times; however, crashing a vehicle – or invoking the reset function to return to the road – does invoke a loading screen.
Slightly Mad Studios Ltd. was a British video game developer based in London. Founded in 2009, it was best known for the Project CARS series of racing games that it developed from 2015 until the series' discontinuation in 2022. Codemasters acquired Slightly Mad Studios in 2019 and was itself acquired by Electronic Arts in 2021.
World Rally Championship is a rally racing video game series. The series is currently developed by Codemasters and published by EA Sports. To date, a total of seventeen main games have been released, with the latest game released on 3 November 2023.

Wreckfest is a racing video game developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic. Wreckfest is described as the spiritual successor to the FlatOut series and a cross between FlatOut, Destruction Derby and cult 1989 PC racer Street Rod. A notable feature of the game engine is the use of soft-body damage modelling, which enables location-based damage that affects the driving dynamics of vehicles in a realistic fashion.
Grid Autosport is a 2014 racing video game developed by Codemasters for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Linux, iOS, macOS, Nintendo Switch and Android. It is the third game in the Grid series. It aims to move the series back towards "more authentic racing games" following the release of Grid 2, which Codemasters felt was not as well-received by the company's core fanbase as it was hoped for. The developers consequently introduced major modifications to the handling model and built a lean, race-first oriented design for this title.

The game was poorly received by the public, being criticized for a departure from its features compared to its predecessors. It is the last mainline instalment in the Project CARS series as the development for the fourth installment was cancelled by Slightly Mad's owner, Electronic Arts in November 2022.

Dirt 5 is a simcade racing video game developed and published by Codemasters. It was the last video game released by Codemasters as a publisher before acquired by Electronic Arts (EA) on 18 February 2021.
F1 is a racing video game series by Codemasters under the EA Sports banner since 2021. The series holds the official license of the FIA Formula One World Championship, with the FIA Formula 2 Championship available since the 2019 game. A total of twenty-one games have been released to date, with the series' latest installment, F1 23, released in June 2023.
