Sony Movies Classic is a British free-to-air TV channel launched 10 September 2019 replacing True Movies. The launch began with the temporary seasonal replacement called Sony Movies Christmas, lasting from 10 September 2019 to 7 January 2020. [1] On 7 January 2020 the replacement was replaced by Sony Movies Classic. The channel is dedicated to classic movies from the 40s to the 00s.

The brand voice of the channel is British voice over artist Ben Neidle, who voices the promos and continuity links.

History

Prior to the 10 September 2019 launch of Sony Movies Classic, the channel was known as True Movies. This channel topped all the film channels in August 2005. The first time a Christmas replacement of the channel was made was in 2013. On 24 July 2019, it was announced that True Movies would be closed and replaced by this channel from 7 January, after the temporary Sony Movies Christmas replacement on 10 September 2019

Sony Movies Christmas returned on 24 September 2020, and ran till 4 January 2021.

Due to Narrative Capital acquiring SPT's full UK portfolio on 14 May 2021, the channel will rebrand as Great! Movies Classic on 25 May 2021. [2]

Star Movies Indian television channel

Star Movies is an Asian pay television network originally owned by Fox Networks Group Asia, Middle East and Star TV India. In March 2019, The Walt Disney Company acquired Star TV for $71 billion with 21st Century Fox. Star Movies was originally launched as a single channel broadcast across Asia, but it was regionalised into different localised channels since then. Fox Networks Group Asia Pacific have since rebranded some of the network's international feeds in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia as Fox Movies, but retains the Star Movies brand in Mainland China ,Taiwan ,Middle East & South Asia. Star India continues to operate the Indian feed of the network as a channel specialised in Western films, while the Middle Eastern feed, operated by Fox Networks Group Middle East, co-exists with Fox Movies. Star Movies HD in Taiwan is operated by Fox Network Group Taiwan which was the advertisement-free offering of Fox Movies Taiwan. However From March 2021 Star Movies Taiwan Started Doing Short Advertisement Breaks In Between Movies. Star Movies in Middle East is operated by Fox Network Group Middle East. Star Movies has been changed into Star Movies HD on January 10, 2021.

HBO Asia Southeast Asian pay television network

HBO Asia is the pan-Asian division of HBO. It was originally launched on 1 May 1992 as MovieVision, later rebranding on 1 June 1995 to its current name after being purchased by Home Box Office, Inc. The Singapore-based broadcast network offers channels and services with no advertisements– HBO, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Hits, Cinemax and Red – as well as HBO Go and HBO on Demand. HBO Asia is also the exclusive distributor of BabyFirst in Asia.

True Entertainment

True Entertainment was a former British free-to-air television channel that was launched on 3 August 2009, replacing Showcase TV. The change was originally scheduled to happen on 1 July 2009, but a late change put the change "on hold until further notice". Whilst the bulk of its programming were movies, similar to sister channels True Movies 1 and True Movies 2, the channel aimed to establish itself as a general entertainment channel.

MTV Classic (British and Irish TV channel)

MTV Classic is a British pay television music channel from ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia. The channel was launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 1 July 1999 as VH1 Classic. It focuses on music videos and music specials from the 1960s onwards, sometimes featuring music videos and concert footage from as early as at least the 1940s or 1950s, such as Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" from 1942. It has also occasionally aired videos from the 2000s and early 2010s. "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, the first video to air on the original MTV in 1981, was also the first music video to be played when the channel was rebranded as MTV Classic on 1 March 2010. Now 90s is a British free-to-air music television channel, focusing exclusively on playing 1990s music for 10 months of the year. The channel originally launched on 23 November 2010 as WTF.

Sony Crime Channel was a British free-to-air television channel, focusing on crime television programmes and documentaries. It was launched on 6 February 2018 and was owned by Sony Pictures Television. It aired crime programming targeted at a female audience.

Sony Movies Action is a British free-to-air TV channel which launched on 10 September 2019 on Freeview, Freesat, Sky and Virgin. It replaced Movies4Men. The channel is dedicated to showing action, war and western movies but also shows classic action television series.

Utsav Plus

Utsav Plus is an European Hindi general entertainment pay television channel owned by Star India, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company India. The network's programming consists of family dramas, comedies, youth-oriented reality shows, shows on crime and television films. Its programming is in Hindi and subtitled in English.
