St. Lawrence County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 108,505. The county seat is Canton. The county is named for the Saint Lawrence River. This was as named by early French explorer Jacques Cartier for the Christian saint Lawrence of Rome, as he visited the river on the saint's feast day. The county is part of the North Country region of the state.

The Church Street Historic District is a national historic district located in the village of Saranac Lake (Harrietstown) in Franklin County, New York. The district extends roughly along Church Street from Main Street to St. Bernard Street. It comprises twenty-seven buildings, including three churches, a medical laboratory, ten homes, two libraries, and six cure cottages, most built between the late 1870s and 1900.

Alonzo Barton Hepburn was an American politician from New York, famed for being the Chairman of the New York State Legislature's eponymous Hepburn Committee of 1879 that investigated the operations of what became known later as the Railroad Trust based in New York State. Hepburn Library is a historic library building located at Norfolk in St. Lawrence County, New York. It was designed by architects Rossiter & Muller and built in 1919–1920. It is a T-shaped, cross-gable-roofed Georgian Revival style brick building on a full, raised basement. Funding for its construction was provided by local philanthropist A. Barton Hepburn.

The Hepburn Library of Colton, also known as the Colton-Hepburn Library, is a historic library building located at Colton, St. Lawrence County, New York. It was designed by architect Ehrick Rossiter and built in 1912-1913 It is a one-story, cruciform plan, stone building with a hipped roof topped by a multi-staged wood cupola. It sits on a raised basement and features an entrance portico with four unfluted Ionic order columns. The building design reflects a combination of Arts and Crafts and Colonial Revival style architecture. Funding for the library was provided by A. Barton Hepburn (1846-1922).
