Walton and Willett Stone Store, also known as the Cahill Building or Cahill's Fish Market, is a historic commercial building located in Oswego, New York. It is a three and four story, limestone structure with a distinctive stepped gable roof on the banks of the Oswego River. The oldest commercial building in the city of Oswego, it was built in 1828 and first used as a ship chandlery. [2] In later years, it housed a newspaper office, customs collector, steamboat ticket and freight office, and warehouse. In 1945, it was purchased for use as a fish market. [3]

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. [1] It was the site of Coleman's Irish Pub until 2008. [4]

In June 2014, the building was ruled "dangerous" by city codes officers citing structural concerns. [5] In 2018, it was redeveloped and opened as seven luxury apartments, now called Cahill Landing. [6] [7] In 2019 the building received the Preservation League of New York State's Excellence in Historic Preservation award. [8]

Oswego City Library is a historic library building located at Oswego in Oswego County, New York. It was built in about 1855 and is a two-story brick structure over a full basement. It features a distinctive castellated style with exterior battlements, machicolations, tower, turrets, corbels, and arcaded windows. It was a gift from Gerrit Smith, who gave $25,000 for the building construction and $5,000 for books. The library is credited for being the oldest public library in the United States that maintains operations out of its original building.

Oswego County Courthouse United States historic place

Oswego County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Oswego in Oswego County, New York. It was built in 1859-1860 and altered in 1891 and again in 1962. The two story building rises above a cruciform plan and is constructed of load bearing masonry walls faced with smooth ashlar limestone. It features a portico surmounted by a domed cupola. It was designed by architect Horatio Nelson White (1814–1892).

Oswego Armory United States historic place

Oswego Armory is a historic National Guard armory located at Oswego in Oswego County, New York. It is a brick and stone castle-like structure built in 1906–1908. It was designed by State architect George L. Heins. It consists of a 2+12-story administration building with an attached large, gable-roofed drill shed. The building features a 5-story octagonal tower at the northwest corner.

Hunter-Oliphant Block United States historic place

Hunter-Oliphant Block, also known as Browne-Davis Furniture Store, is a historic commercial building located at Oswego in Oswego County, New York. It consists of adjacent brick buildings under single ownership; the three-story Hunter Building, built in 1882, and the Oliphant Building, built in 1880 as a three-story building with a fourth story added in the 1890s. The buildings exhibits Italianate design details. The first floor has cast-iron storefronts. The buildings have a common history dating to 1909 when they were combined as a single furniture store.

Mexico station

Mexico station is a historic railway depot located at Mexico in Oswego County, New York. It was built in 1905 by the Oswego and Rome Railroad. It is a one-story, Stick style, wood frame building, 40 feet by 100 feet in size. It has a broad hip roof with a wide overhang. Also on the property is a two stall privy. It was last used as a railroad depot in 1940.

It features rectangular cut stone columns with Doric capitals in the Greek Revival style. When built it was located strategically at the terminus of the 1828 Oswego Canal.

Market House (Oswego, New York) United States historic place

Market House, also known as The Market Hall and The D.L.& W. Hall, is a historic market building located at Oswego in Oswego County, New York. It was built in 1835 and is a massive brick and stone structure overlooking the Oswego River. The structure originally housed several government entities including city hall. A new city hall was constructed in 1870 and completed in 1872. A section of the basement is believed to have been used as a jail. In 1864 the city sold it to the Oswego and Syracuse Railroad, that used it for the next 80 years as office and storage space. The railroad upgraded the building with a bracketed cornice and elaborate cupola.

Walton Grange No. 1454 United States historic place

Walton Grange No. 1454 is a historic Grange building located at 137 Stockton Avenue in Walton in Delaware County, New York, United States. Designed by architects Randall and Gilbert of Walton and built in 1886, it consists of a two-story administration building with an attached gable roofed drill shed. It was occupied from 1886-1896 by the 33rd Separate Company then vacated in 1896 and converted for use as a school and a Grange hall. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 as Walton Grange #1454-Former Armory.

Located within the district are the separately listed Hamilton and Rhoda Littlefield House, Richardson-Bates House, Oswego City Library, and Oswego County Courthouse. Washington Park was laid out in 1797 when the city of Oswego was laid out.

It was built as late as the 1830s and is a one-story, stone building with a gable roof. At the rear is a two-story frame extension. It is believed to be Mexico's oldest surviving commercial building.

It was built in 1888 and is a four-story building measuring approximately 50 feet wide and 126 feet deep. It is a heavy timber post and beam and brick masonry structure on a limestone foundation. It ceased use as a brewery in the 1920s, after which it housed manufacturing and warehousing companies.

Kingsford Historic District is a national historic district located at Oswego, Oswego County, New York. It encompasses 76 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Oswego. It developed between about 1830 and 1910, and includes notable examples of Italianate, Romanesque Revival, Colonial Revival, and Tudor Revival style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Kingsford House. Other notable buildings include the former St. Matthew's Lutheran Church (1888), 40 West Oneida Street (1898) designed by Claude Fayette Bragdon, the former Public School #3 (1860s), and West Baptist Church (1867) designed by Andrew Jackson Warner.

Derrick Boat No. 8 United States historic place

Derrick Boat No. 8, also known as DB 8, is a historic floating derrick located at Oswego, Oswego County, New York. It was built in 1927, and it is one of the few surviving steam-powered floating derricks to have worked on the New York State Barge Canal. It has a 75 foot by 28 foot hull composed of both riveted and welded heavy steel plate. The site of the vessel's caretaker is the H. Lee White Marine Museum.
