The 2007 Bolsover District Council election took place on 3 May 2007 to elect members of Bolsover District Council in Derbyshire, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour party stayed in overall control of the council. [1]

Bolsover is a local government district in Derbyshire, England. It is named after the town of Bolsover, which is near the geographic centre of the district, but the council is based in Clowne. At the 2011 Census, the district had a population of 75,866.

Election result

Labour remained in control of the council but lost 4 seats to hold 27 of the 37 councillors. [2] Respect won their first seat on the council after Ray Holmes took Shirebrook North West by 31 votes, defeating the Labour whip on the council, Stephen Fritchley. [2] [3]

The Respect Party was a left-wing to far-left political party active in the United Kingdom between 2004 and 2016. At the height of its success in 2007, the party had one Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons and nineteen councillors in local government.

Shirebrook is a town in the Bolsover district of north-east Derbyshire on the border with Nottinghamshire, England. it had a population of 13,300 in 2011, reducing to 9,760 at the 2011 Census. It is on the B6407, and close to the A632 road, between Mansfield and Bolsover.

Independents also made gains, with 7 independent councillors elected in Blakwell, Clowne North, Clowne South, Elmton-with-Creswell, Shirebrook South West and Tibshelf wards, up from 4 before the election. [2] Meanwhile, the Whitwell Residents Association held both seats in Whitwell, with their second candidate 39 votes ahead of an independent candidate. [4]

It is one of the four villages that make up the civil parish of Blackwell within the District of Bolsover - the other villages being Hilcote, Newton and Westhouses. The Parish Council meets monthly. Clowne is a village and civil parish in the Bolsover district of Derbyshire, England. The population at the 2001 Census was 7,447 increasing to 7,590 at the 2011 Census. It forms part of the Bolsover constituency. Clowne lies 9 miles (14 km) north east of Chesterfield and 7 miles (11 km) south west of Worksop. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Clune. The name is derived from the Celtic Clun for a river.

Elmton-with-Creswell civil parish in Bolsover District, Derbyshire

Elmton-with-Creswell is a civil parish in the English county of Derbyshire. Forming part of Bolsover district its main settlements are Elmton, Creswell and Creswell Model Village. According to Census data in 2001, Elmton with Creswell parish had a population of 4,755, and in 2011 had a population of 5,550. The village lies on the border with Nottinghamshire.
