The Brong-Ahafo Region was a Region located in southern Ghana. Brong-Ahafo was bordered to the north by the Black Volta river and to the east by the Lake Volta, and to the south by the Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions. The capital of Brong-Ahafo is Sunyani. Brong-Ahafo was created on 14 April 1959 from the then Western Ashanti and named after the dominant and native inhabitants, Akans, Brong and Ahafo. [3] In 2019, as a result of the 2018 Ghanaian new regions referendum, the region was divided into three, namely Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, and ceased to exist. [4]

Economy and Tourism

Brong Ahafo is known for its large cocoa production and agriculture agribusiness industries.[ citation needed ] Brong-Ahafo contains many Akan cultural and wildlife attractions, but it is less known to tourists than the Ashanti or Central region. Attractions of Brong-Ahafo include Kintampo, with its waterfalls (Kintampo waterfalls) and nature reserves; Fiema, one of the communities which is home to the Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary (a short distance outside Sunyani); national parks, Bui National Park and Digya National Park.

Education

Paul Yeboah is the founder of the Ghana Permaculture Institute. The Ghana Permaculture Institute is a non-profit organization in Techiman (Brong Ahafo Region, Ghana). The purpose of the Institute is to train communities how to build and maintain stable food systems using Permaculture sustainable practices that restore, take care of local ecosystems, and to improve quality of life in rural and urban areas. [5]

Universities in the area include the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG), Anglican University of Technology (AnguTech), College of Science, Arts and Education (CSAE) and Sunyani Technical University.[ citation needed ]

Sports

The region is renowned for producing a lot of elite athletes. Asamoah Gyan, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and John Paintsil are just a few of the numerous prominent sports personalities the region has produced. Currently, the region houses three of the 16 teams in the Ghana premier league. Aduana Stars F.C. is the traditional team of the Dormaa Traditional Area and it is based in Dormaa Ahenkro. They were promoted into the league for the first time in 2009 and emerged champions of the Ghana premier league that same year. In 2010 the premier league was won by Berekum Chelsea F.C., a club which is based in Berekum. Aduana Stars won the 2017 Ghanaian Premier League. [6] Bechem United F.C. is the third Ghana Premier League team from the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Kintampo waterfalls Natural attraction in Ghana

Kintampo waterfalls is one of the highest waterfalls in Bono East of Ghana. Also known as Sanders Falls during the colonial days, it is located on the Pumpum river, a tributary of the Black Volta, about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of Kintampo municipality, on the Kumasi–Tamale road. This waterfall, one of the main natural attractions in the area, is hidden in the forest and it is formed by 3 main drops where the longest drop measures 25 metres (82 ft) in height, and, after a number of steps and cascades, the river falls about 70 metres (230 ft).

2015 Ghanaian Premier League

The 2015 Ghanaian Premier League season will be the 56th season of top-tier football in Ghana. The competition was scheduled to begin in late September 2014 or early October 2014, although it did not start until January 2015.

St. Ambrose College of Education is a teacher education college in Dormaa Akwamu. The college is located in Ashanti / Brong Ahafo zone. It is one of the about 40 public colleges of education in Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme. It was established in November 2009 by the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani and officially commissioned in January 2011. In the 2016–2017 academic year it became a Public College of Education. Bono East Region Region in Ghana

The Bono East Region of Ghana is a new region carved out of the existing Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. The capital of the new region is Techiman. This creation of this new region was in fulfillment of a promise made by the New Patriotic Party prior to the 2016 Ghana general election. Upon winning the elections, the President, Nana Akuffo Addo created the Ministry of Regional Reorganization to oversee policy formulation and implementation. In all six new regions are to be created from the existing ten regions of Ghana. The other regions are Bono,Western North, Ahafo, Savannah, North East, and Oti regions.

Kwasi Etu-Bonde is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Kintampo North Constituency in the Brong-Ahafo Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.

William Kwasi Sabi is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Dormaa East Constituency in the Brong-Ahafo Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Bono Region Region in Ghana

Bono Ahafo Region is one of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. It is as a result of the remainder Brong-Ahafo Region when Bono East Region and Ahafo Region were created. Sunyani, also known as the green city of Ghana is the regional capital. Sunyani can pride itself as the cleanest capital city and a major conference destination.

Kwame Boahene Yeboah-Afari was an educator and a politician. He served in various ministerial portfolios of the first republic including serving as Ghana's first Minister for Agriculture and the first Regional Minister for the Brong Ahafo Region. He also served as a member of parliament for the Sunyani East constituency.

Stephen Willie Yeboah was a Ghanaian politician. He served as a regional commissioner for the Brong Ahafo Region, the Ashanti Region and the Western Region. He also served as a member of parliament for the Sunyani West constituency and later the Dormaa constituency.
