Banjar, is a city located in the east of West Java, Indonesia, on the border between West Java and Central Java. It was originally administered as part of Ciamis Regency, which surrounds it, but was split off to become an independent city on 11 December 2002. It covers a land area of 131.97 km2, and had a population of 175,157 at the 2010 Census and 200,970 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 207,510. This city is also known as Banjar Patroman or Pataruman.

The site occupies an area of 145 hectares and serves the area of civil aviation in the south western region of Java. Most of the commercial flights operations transferred from this to newly built Kertajati International Airport.

On 6 April 2009, a Fokker F27-400M Troopship of the Indonesian Air Force crashed into a hangar at Husein Sastranegara International Airport, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Witnesses stated that lightning struck the aircraft before the crash. The aircraft was carrying 18 passengers and 6 crew when it crashed. There were no survivors among the 24 people on board.
An earthquake occurred on September 2, 2009, at 14:55:01 local time in West Java, Indonesia. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake killed at least 81 people, injured over 1,297, and displaced over 210,000. The quake was felt in the capital Jakarta, although damage there was minimal, and it was Indonesia's deadliest earthquake since the 2006 Pangandaran earthquake and tsunami.
Pangandaran Regency is a Regency in West Java province, Indonesia, formed on 25 October 2012 out of the former southern portion of Ciamis Regency. The population of this area as of the 2010 Census was 383,848, and was 423,670 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 431,464. The administrative capital is the town of Parigi.

The 2017 Java earthquake occurred on 15 December 2017 when a moment magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Java, specifically the city of Tasikmalaya on 23:47:58 West Indonesian Time in West Java, Indonesia. The earthquake struck at a depth of 91 km and was categorized as a strong but deep earthquake. It was initially registered as a 7.3 magnitude earthquake by Indonesian agencies. Widespread damage was reported across Tasikmalaya, the nearest major city to the epicentre. A tsunami warning was immediately issued by the authorities but was subsequently cancelled. Four people have been confirmed dead.
