The Banda Islands are a volcanic group of ten small volcanic islands in the Banda Sea, about 140 km (87 mi) south of Seram Island and about 2,000 km (1,243 mi) east of Java, and constitute an administrative district (kecamatan) within the Central Maluku Regency in the Indonesian province of Maluku. The islands rise out of 4-to-6-kilometre deep ocean and have a total land area of approximately 172 square kilometres (66 sq mi). They had a population of 18,544 at the 2010 Census and 20,924 at the 2020 Census. Until the mid-19th century the Banda Islands were the world's only source of the spices nutmeg and mace, produced from the nutmeg tree. The islands are also popular destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling. The main town and administrative centre is Banda Neira, located on the island of the same name.

The airport takes its name after Djuanda Kartawidjaja (1911–1963), the last Prime Minister of Indonesia who had suggested development of this airport. In 2019, the airport served about 500 aircraft per day.
Sabang is a city in Aceh province, Indonesia consisting of Weh Island and several smaller islands off the northern tip of Sumatra. The administrative centre is located 17 kilometres (11 mi) north of Banda Aceh. The city covers an area of 122.13 square kilometres (47.15 sq mi) and had a population of 43,391 in the 2020 census although that total was subsequently adjusted to 41,197; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 43,208. Sabang is known as the northernmost and westernmost city of Indonesia. It also has by far the smallest population of any city in Indonesia.

The airport's runway is 1,350 metres (4,430 ft) long and is partially marked asphalt landing strip. Karel Sadsuitubun Airport is an airport located in Kai Islands, Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku, Indonesia, replacing the old Dumatubin Airport which is now used only by the Indonesian Air Force. It serves both the city of Tual and the Langgur. The airport is named in honor of Karel Satsuit Tubun (1928–1965), who is a National Hero of Indonesia. The airport serves as the point of entry to Kai Islands, which contains many tourist spot such as untouched beaches which contain crystal clear water. Construction of the airport started in 2006 and after extensive delay, it was completed in 2013. The airport was inaugurated by former Minister of Transportation, Ignasius Jonan on Friday 19 December 2014. The inauguration was held simultaneously, in conjunction with the inauguration of 20 ports and 10 airports across Indonesia. The airport began operation on Monday, 24 February 2014, characterized by first landing aircraft of the airline Trigana Air.
Mathilda Batlayeri Airport is an airport located in Amfutu, Tumbur Village, Wertamrian district, Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku, Indonesia. The airport replaced the old Olilit Airport to the south, which has fallen into disuse. The airport is named after Mathilda Batlayeri, a heroine originating from Tanimbar Islands who died at South Kalimantan in 1953 while fighting the Darul Islam rebel movement. Construction of the airport started in 2005. The airport began operation on 9 May 2014 after years of delay of construction of the airport. The airport currently can only accommodate airplanes up to the ATR-72, since the runway currently only has a length of 1.850 m. However, the government is planning to extend the runway to 2,500 m in 2019. The runway would also be widened to 45 m from the current 30 m <. This would allow the airport to accommodate larger aircraft such as the Boeing 737, Fokker 100 and the Airbus A320.
