Hang Nadim International Airport( IATA : BTH, ICAO : WIDD) is an international airport located in Batam, Riau Islands, Indonesia. It is named after Laksamana Hang Nadim Pahlawan Kechik, a legendary Malay warrior from the region. The airport is the primary method of transport to and from Batam, alongside ferries to neighboring islands, including the sovereign city-state of Singapore in the north.
The airport has the largest runway in Indonesia and the second-longest in Southeast Asia. This stems from its original development to handle diversions of aircraft from Singapore Changi Airport located approximately 30 kilometres (19 miles) away in the case of emergencies or inclement weather, and as such has sufficient facilities for wide-body aircraft including the Boeing 747s, Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s. [2] [3] [4] [5] The airport stretches over 1,800 hectares (4,400 acres), of which only 40% is normally used.
By the end of May 2014, it was the sixth airport in Indonesia to operate 24 hours a day. The move was the result of many airlines making the airport a hub for their operations. [6] Lion Air has developed a base at the airport as Soekarno–Hatta International Airport is severely congested. The airport also has an aircraft maintenance facility which is gradually transforming into a hub for aircraft maintenance.
In March 2021, a PPP for the expansion of the airport was awarded to a consortium of Angkasa Pura I, Incheon International Airport Corporation and state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya. [7] The 25 year concession includes the improvement of passenger and cargo terminal facilities. [8]

BP Batam, the airport operator, plans to expand and improve infrastructure with a massive project costing US$448 million. [18] The new terminal will be the second terminal of the airport. The existing terminal will be expanded from a capacity of 4 million passengers per year to 8 million passengers per year, with 6 jetbridges. The new terminal will also able to hold up to 8 million passengers (first phase) per year, with 8 jetbridges. In total, the terminals will have a capacity of 16 million passengers per year and 14 jetbridges. Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Incheon International Airport will also help BP Batam, the airport owner and operator, in developing the new terminal.
The planned Aerocity will cover an area of 1,763 hectares, with the airport, logistics, central business district (CBD) and the aviation industry being integrated under one business concept. The development plan for the airport includes designs for various facilities such as golf courses, hotels, retail facilities, recreation centers, a convention center, offices for e-commerce and telecommunications, logistics and a monorail; it is designed to turn Batam into a business travel destination and Aeropolis. Recently the airport has become an important hub for the aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industry. In the long term, Hang Nadim Airport is planned to be developed into an Aeropolis covering an area of 1,800 hectares. Lion Air's subsidiary Batam Aero Technic (BAT) has invested in Hang Nadim by building MRO facilities. BAT plans to expand the existing hangar to 28 hectares to accommodate as many as 250 aircraft. Garuda Indonesia's aircraft maintenance unit, GMF AeroAsia, Lion Air Group and Batam Aero Technic announced a joint venture to build an MRO facility in Batam to compete with neighboring Singapore. [21]

On August 9, 2017 the Head of Batam Airport Hang Nadim Suwarso confirmed that a large hole measuring 12 meters by 5 meters by 2 meters deep on a taxiway had caused the surface of the asphalt layer to collapse. [23] [24] [25] [26] This was the second reported accident of soil collapse at the airport.
On May 5, 2010, a 12m diameter hole was created when the surface collapsed beside a runway. Airport authorities blamed the incident on corroded steel structures supporting the drainage culverts. [27]
Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, abbreviated SHIA or Soetta, formerly legally called Jakarta Cengkareng Airport, is the primary airport serving the Jakarta metropolitan area on the island of Java in Indonesia. Named after the first president and vice-president of Indonesia, Sukarno (1901–1970) and Mohammad Hatta (1902–1980), the airport is located at Benda, Tangerang and Cengkareng, West Jakarta, which is about 20 km northwest of Central Jakarta. Together with Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, they served over 80 million passengers in 2019.
PT Indonesia AirAsia, operating as Indonesia AirAsia, is an Indonesian low-cost airline based in Tangerang, Banten. It operates scheduled domestic and international services and is an Indonesian associate carrier of the Malaysian AirAsia. Its main base is Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. Indonesia AirAsia is listed in category 1 by the Indonesian Civil Aviation Authority for airline safety quality.
Sriwijaya Air is an Indonesian airline headquartered and based at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten. It began its operations on 10 November 2003, and flies scheduled and chartered services on domestic routes within Indonesia as well as international routes to neighbouring countries. The airline's slogan is Your Flying Partner.
Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport, formerly named as Sepinggan Airport, is an international airport serving the city of Balikpapan and adjacent areas of East Kalimantan, located in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The airport began its new operational phase on 6 August 1997, with a new building and runway structure, replacing the old structure on the same site. The airport is operated by PT. Angkasa Pura I, which has an area of 300 hectares.

Juanda International Airport is operated by PT Angkasa Pura I. The airport takes its name after Djuanda Kartawidjaja (1911–1963), the last Prime Minister of Indonesia who had suggested development of this airport. Syamsudin Noor Airport is an airport serving Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is located in the district of Landasan Ulin, 5 km (3.1 mi) west of Banjarbaru, the capital of South Kalimantan, and about 25 km (16 mi) southeast from the centre of the city of Banjarmasin, the largest city of South Kalimantan. Supadio Airport, formerly known as Sei Durian Airport or Sungai Durian Airport, is a domestic airport serving Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It is located 17 kilometres (11 mi) from Downtown Pontianak. The airport is managed by PT. Angkasa Pura II, and takes up 528 ha. The airport serves as the main point of entry to West Kalimantan. The airport serves domestic routes only as of mid-2023. The airport was named the best airport in Asia-Pacific in 2020 by Airports Council International.
Domine Eduard Osok Airport, located in Sorong, Southwest Papua, Indonesia, is one of the largest and busiest airports on the Bird's Head Peninsula. It replaced a smaller, former World War II airfield, Jefman Airport on the island of Jefman. The airport is named after Domine Eduard Osok, a pastor originating from Sorong and known for doing missionary work and spreading Christianity in Sorong and the surrounding parts.
Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport is an international airport serving Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is located 20 km (12 mi) northeast of Makassar's city centre and is operated by PT. Angkasa Pura I. The current terminal was opened on 20 August 2008. The airport is the main gateway for flights to the eastern part of Indonesia, and named after Sultan Hasanuddin (1631–1670), a Sultan of Gowa, who fought against the Dutch East India Company in the 1660s.
Yogyakarta International Airport is an international airport located at Temon district of Kulon Progo Regency, in Java, Indonesia. The airport is situated around 45 km (28 mi) from the city of Yogyakarta, which serves the Yogyakarta Special Region, as well as nearby Central Javan cities such as Purworejo, Kebumen, Cilacap and Magelang. Super Air Jet is an Indonesian ultra low-cost airline based in Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. The airline was founded in March 2021 and commenced operations on 6 August 2021.
