The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau is an agency of the Government of Hong Kong responsible for policy matters on Hong Kong's external commercial relations,inward investment promotion,intellectual property protection,industry and business support,tourism,consumer protection and competition,as well as broadcasting,film-related issues,overall view of creative industries,development of telecommunications,and control of obscene and indecent articles in Hong Kong. [1]
The bureau is headed by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development,currently Edward Yau. It is divided into the Commerce,Industry and Tourism Branch and the Communications and Creative Industry Branch,each headed by a Permanent Secretary.
In January 2021,the department,under Edward Yau,said that a policy to require SIM card registration,where users of SIM cards would need to link their IDs,was necessary. [2] In May 2023,after the policy was implemented,the government revealed that phone scams increased by 76% from the first quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023. [3] In May 2023,Cheung Wun-yiu filed a judicial appeal against the SIM card registration policy. [4]

The Education Bureau (EDB) is responsible for formulating and implementing education policies in Hong Kong.
The Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) is a government agency responsible for the protection of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region against smuggling;the protection and collection of revenue on dutiable goods on behalf of the Hong Kong Government;the detection and deterrence of drug trafficking and abuse of controlled drugs;the protection of intellectual property rights;the protection of consumer interests;and the protection and facilitation of legitimate trade and upholding Hong Kong's trading integrity.
The Immigration Department of the Government of Hong Kong is responsible for immigration control of Hong Kong. After the People's Republic of China assumed sovereignty of the territory in July 1997,Hong Kong's immigration system remained largely unchanged from its British predecessor model. Residents from mainland China do not have the right of abode in Hong Kong,nor can they enter the territory freely,both before and after 1997. There are different regulations that apply to residents of Macau,another Special Administrative Region of China. In addition,visa-free entry acceptance regulations into Hong Kong for passport holders of some 170 countries remain unchanged before and after 1997.
The Information Services Department (ISD) is the Hong Kong Government's public relations office,publisher,advertiser,and news agency,serving as the link between the government and the media. It was also commonly called Government Information Services (GIS).
The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) is one of the 15 policy bureaux under the Government Secretariat of the Government of Hong Kong and is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies on the management of the Hong Kong Civil Service.
Edward Yau Tang-wah,GBS,JP is a Hong Kong politician. He was the Secretary for the Environment from 2007 to 2012,and from 2012 to 2017,he was the Director of the Chief Executive's Office of Hong Kong. He served as Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development from 2017 to 2022.
Paul Chan Mo-po is the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong and former Secretary for Development of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
The visa policy of Hong Kong deals with the requirements in which a foreign national wishing to enter Hong Kong through one of the 15 immigration control points must meet to obtain an entry permit or Visa,which depending on the traveller's nationality,may be required to travel to,enter,and remain in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Visitors from over 145 countries are permitted without Visa entry for periods ranging from 7 to 180 days,to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for tourism or certain business-related activities. All visitors must hold a passport valid for more than 1 month.
The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau is a ministerial-level policy bureaux of the Government of Hong Kong responsible for the implementation of the Basic Law,including electoral matters and promotion of equal opportunities and privacy protection. The bureau also functions as the intermediary between the HKSAR Government and the Central People's Government and other Mainland authorities under the principles of "One Country,Two Systems",including the coordination of liaison between the HKSAR Government and Central authorities,promoting regional co-operation initiatives between Hong Kong and the Mainland,and overseeing the operation of offices of the HKSAR Government on the Mainland.
The Consumer Council is an independent statutory authority in Hong Kong,established in 1974 and formalised in April 1977 under the Consumer Council Ordinance. Its role is to enhance consumer welfare and empower consumers to protect themselves. As shown below,over the course of the past four decades,the expansion in the council's duties and services on consumer protection,such as the publishing of the CHOICE Magazine in 1976,the recent launch of online price-watching tools,and conducting studies on different aspects of the consumer market,have coincided with the socio-economic development of Hong Kong. Apart from being a consumer advisor,it has assumed the role as a key stakeholder in making of consumer-related policies.
The Trade and Industry Bureau is a former policy bureau of the Hong Kong Government,responsible for promoting Hong Kong's access to the world market,helping Hong Kong manufacturers remain competitive in international markets,enhancing the protection of intellectual property rights,and promoting Hong Kong customers' interests. It was headed by Secretary for Trade and Industry.
Kevin Yeung Yun-hung is a Hong Kong government official. He is the current Secretary for Culture,Sports and Tourism,serving since 2022.
Lantau Tomorrow Vision,also known as the Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands,is a development project in Hong Kong proposed by the previous two Chief Executives of Hong Kong. The previous Chief Executive Carrie Lam proposed in her 2018 policy address which includes the creation of a third core business district by constructing artificial islands with a total area of about 1,700 hectares through massive land reclamation near Kau Yi Chau and Hei Ling Chau of the eastern waters of Lantau Island. The project has met with controversy and opposition for its high cost of estimated HK$580 billion –amounting to half of the city's fiscal reserves,as well as environmental concerns.
Chris Tang Ping-keung is a Hong Kong law enforcement administrator who has been serving as the Secretary for Security of Hong Kong since June 2021. Tang joined the Hong Kong Police Force in 1987 immediately after his graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a bachelor of social science in social work. He previously served as the Commissioner of Police of Hong Kong from 2019 to 2021,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) from 2018 to 2019,and Director of Operations of the Hong Kong Police Force from 2017 to 2018.
