The Transport and Housing Bureau (THB) was an agency of the Government of Hong Kong between 2007 and 2022,responsible for a range of policies such as the internal and external transportation,including air transport,land transport,maritime transport,logistics and housing development in Hong Kong. [1] The bureau was headed by the Secretary for Transport and Housing (STH).
The bureau was formed on 1 July 2007 to take over the transport portfolios previously under the purview of the Environment,Transport and Works Bureau,and the public housing portfolios of the Housing,Planning and Lands Bureau. On 1 July 2022,the THB was split up into the Transport and Logistics Bureau (TLB) and the Housing Bureau.
The bureau was divided into two branches,the Transport Branch and the Housing Branch. The following public entities are controlled by the bureau: [2]
Public housing in Hong Kong is a set of mass housing programmes through which the Government of Hong Kong provides affordable housing for lower-income residents. It is a major component of housing in Hong Kong,with nearly half of the population now residing in some form of public housing. The public housing policy dates to 1954,after a fire in Shek Kip Mei destroyed thousands of shanty homes and prompted the government to begin constructing homes for the poor.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department is a Hong Kong government department responsible for inspection and enforcement of operation and safety of many electricity and gas installations;railways and trams;lifts and escalators;amusement rides;working platforms on building sites,and many other diverse areas. Public factory estates are blocks of factory buildings owned by the Government of Hong Kong. Built between the late 1950s and the early 1980s,most of these industrial buildings have been demolished during the 1990s and 2000s,while some have been converted and a few are still active. While these buildings are notable as witnesses of the history of manufacturing in Hong Kong and of the public housing policy of the Government of Hong Kong,they represent only a fraction of the industrial buildings of the territory:there were about 1,700 industrial buildings in Hong Kong in 2003.
The South Island line (West) is a proposed extension of the Hong Kong MTR metro system. The new line would serve the southwestern coast of Hong Kong Island,between Shek Tong Tsui and Wong Chuk Hang. Frank Chan Fan is a Hong Kong engineer and government official. He served as Secretary for Transport and Housing from 2017 to 2022,also the Chairman of Hong Kong Housing Authority,Chairman of Aviation Development &Three-runway System Advisory Committee and Chairman of Hong Kong Logistics Development Council. Before Chan has become a principal official as Secretary for Transport and Housing,he was the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services.
The Air Accident Investigation Authority is responsible for investigating civil aviation accidents in Hong Kong,as well as those in other territories involving a Hong Kong-registered aircraft. It was established in 2018 under the Transport and Housing Bureau,currently the Transport and Logistics Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong.
Choi Tak Estate,formerly Choi Wan Road Site 2 and Choi Wan Road Site 3A,is a public housing estate in Ping Shan,Kowloon,Hong Kong next to Choi Ying Estate. Choi Tak Estate is a part of the housing development near Jordan Valley. It is developed into two phases and all blocks were completed in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Transport and Logistics Bureau is one of the fifteen policy bureaux for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. It is responsible for the transport and logistics policy portfolios. The agency was established on 1 July 2022,when the housing portfolios of the former Transport and Housing Bureau was spun off to form the Housing Bureau. The current Secretary for Transport and Logistics is Lam Sai-hung.
The Public Works Department was a department of the Hong Kong Government.
