David G. Wasinger (born 1962/1963) [1] is an American attorney,accountant,and politician who is serving as the 49th lieutenant governor of Missouri,since 2025. On November 5,2024,he defeated Democratic nominee Richard Brown for lieutenant governor.
Wasinger was born and raised in Hannibal,Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Missouri and a Juris Doctor from the Vanderbilt University Law School. In law school,Wasinger was an associate editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review . [2]
After earning his undergraduate degree,Wasinger worked as a Certified Public Accountant. In 1991,he joined a small law firm. Wasinger specializes in business law and successfully sued large banks after the 2007–2008 financial crisis. [3] [4] He was a candidate in the 2018 Missouri State Auditor election,placing second in the Republican primary. [5] Wasinger was the Republican nominee in the 2024 Missouri lieutenant gubernatorial election. [6] [7]
United States gubernatorial elections were held on November 7,2000,in 11 states and two territories. The elections coincided with the presidential election. Democrats gained one seat by defeating an incumbent in West Virginia. As of 2025,this remains the last gubernatorial cycle in which a Democrat won in Indiana.
Susan Montee is an American lawyer and politician from the U.S. state of Missouri who served as the 35th State Auditor of Missouri. She won the election in 2006 Missouri State Auditor Election and was sworn into her position on January 4,2007. She was the third woman in succession to serve as State Auditor of Missouri. She succeeded then-U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. Montee is a member of the Democratic Party. She was defeated in the 2010 election by Tom Schweich. In 2011 Montee was elected the Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party,which she stepped down from later that year to run for Lieutenant Governor. Susan defeated seven other candidates in the August,2012 Missouri Democratic Primary for Lieutenant Governor of Missouri. She lost the general election on November 6,2012 to the Republican incumbent,Peter Kinder.

The 2012 Missouri lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 6,2012. Incumbent Republican Peter Kinder faced Democratic nominee and former state auditor Susan Montee,Libertarian Matthew Copple,and the Constitution Party nominee,former state representative Cynthia Davis.
The 2010 Missouri State Auditor election took place on November 2,2010. Republican Ambassador Tom Schweich defeated incumbent Democratic State Auditor Susan Montee. It was only the third time in the last four decades that a sitting auditor in Missouri was unseated. Schweich's victory made him one of only two Republicans elected to Missouri's executive branch.

In the general election,he faced Attorney General Buell F. Jones,the Republican nominee. Despite Republican presidential nominee Herbert Hoover overwhelmingly defeating Democratic nominee Al Smith overwhelmingly in South Dakota,Bulow defeated Jones by a decisive margin to retain the governorship. In so doing,he became the first Democratic candidate for Governor to receive a majority of the vote in the state's history.

Republican attorney David Wasinger and Democratic state Representative Richard Brown won their parties' respective primaries,and faced each other in the general election. Wasinger defeated Brown by nearly 19 percentage points.
