Final Fantasy Chronicles is a compilation of Square's role-playing video games Final Fantasy IV (1991) and Chrono Trigger (1995), released for the North American Sony PlayStation on July 2, 2001. TOSE ported both titles from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System; each had been previously released as individual Japanese PlayStation ports in 1997 and 1999. Several bonus features were added to each game, such as art galleries, bestiaries, and cutscenes—including computer-generated imagery full motion video used at the beginning of Final Fantasy IV and anime scenes used throughout Chrono Trigger.
SaGa (サガ) is a series of science fantasy role-playing video games by Square Enix. The series originated on the Game Boy in 1989 as the creation of Akitoshi Kawazu at Square. It has since continued across multiple platforms, from the Super NES to the PlayStation 2. The series is notable for its emphasis on open world exploration, non-linear branching plots, and occasionally unconventional gameplay. This distinguishes the games from most of Square's other franchises.
A role-playing video game, a role-playing game (RPG) or computer role-playing game (CRPG), is a video game genre where the player controls the actions of a character immersed in some well-defined world, usually involving some form of character development by way of recording statistics. Many role-playing video games have origins in tabletop role-playing games and use much of the same terminology, settings, and game mechanics. Other major similarities with pen-and-paper games include developed story-telling and narrative elements, player character development, complexity, as well as replay value and immersion. The electronic medium removes the necessity for a gamemaster and increases combat resolution speed. RPGs have evolved from simple text-based console-window games into visually rich 3D experiences.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is a 2003 tactical role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. A spin-off of the Final Fantasy series, the game shares several traits with 1997's Final Fantasy Tactics, although it is not a direct sequel. The player assembles a clan of characters, and controls their actions over grid-like battlefields. Players are mostly free to decide the classes, abilities, and statistics of their characters.
Tactical role-playing games, also known as strategy role-playing games and in Japan as simulation RPGs, are a video game genre that combines core elements of role-playing video games with those of tactical strategy video games. The formats of tactical RPGs are much like traditional tabletop role-playing games and strategy games in appearance, pacing, and rule structure. Likewise, early tabletop role-playing games are descended from skirmish wargames such as Chainmail, which were primarily concerned with combat.
ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat is a 2007 tactical role-playing game developed by Mistwalker and Racjin and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS exclusively in Japan. The storyline follows Aisya, princess of Millinear, after a fire monster burns the kingdom to ashes on her coronation day. She gains the ability to revive the dead as ash-formed bodies and sets out to investigate the cause behind the disaster. The gameplay combines tactical grid-based movement of 2D characters in the field with traditional turn-based battles, in which party members are represented by CGI models.
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales, released in Japan as Chocobo to Mahō no Ehon is a Nintendo DS adventure game developed by h.a.n.d. and published by Square Enix. It was released in Japan on December 14, 2006, in North America on April 3, 2007, and in the PAL region in May.

Releasing in 2007 in Japan and 2008 in the West, the game is a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and forms part of the Ivalice Alliance, a group of games set in the titular fictional universe. The game features cameo appearances from central and supporting characters from Final Fantasy XII, a title set in Ivalice.

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon is a 2007 role-playing video game published by Square Enix for the Wii. It is an installment in the Chocobo series that focuses on Chocobo and his quest to free a town lost in time from eternal forgetfulness. It is a loose sequel to Chocobo's Dungeon 2 on the PlayStation.
Strategy is a major video game genre that emphasizes thinking and planning over direct instant action in order to achieve victory. Although many types of video games can contain strategic elements, as a genre, strategy games are most commonly defined as those with a primary focus on high-level strategy, logistics and resource management. They are also usually divided into two main sub-categories: turn-based and real-time, but there are also many strategy cross/sub-genres that feature additional elements such as tactics, diplomacy, economics and exploration.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is a series of video games within the Final Fantasy franchise developed by Square Enix. Beginning in 2003 with the game for the GameCube, the series has predominantly been released on Nintendo gaming hardware and covers multiple genres, including action role-playing. The Crystal Chronicles series takes place in an unnamed world inhabited by four tribes. Recurring themes include creating objects from memory and the importance of family. The gameplay, which has always been aimed at as wide an audience as possible within a genre, generally involves either multiple players or a large group working together.
Set a course for adventure in the next great tactical role-playing game, and don't forget your puffy shirt.
Return to Middle-earth in this tactical RPG where you decide the fate of The Third Age. Build a Fellowship of heroes or create the ultimate force of evil with hundreds of skill, weapon, and ability upgrades at your disposal.
Rebelstar: Tactical Command has an interesting variety of characters, equipment and environments, which are the essential components of any decent tactical RPG. First, I will explain a little bit about characters and how they can improve.
Genre-defying RPG based on the popular pen-and-paper roleplaying game from Palladium Publishing. ... The game has been adapted into an isometric tactical RPG but at the same time retains all of the rules and ideas of the original.
A tactical role-playing game set in a fantasy world.
After an absence of several years, possibly the most beloved world in the history of tactical RPGs (though this may change after FFXII puts Ivalice front and center again) is making a comeback in the form of a direct sequel to the original surprise cult hit, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
A portable and enhanced version of one of the best, deepest tactical RPGs ever released, Afternoon of Darkness is just one more reason you'll never get around to reading on your commute.
Jeanne d'Arc is the best tactical RPG that I have played in a long time. The amount of skill customization and various character types with their own weapon types and skills is amazing as is the sheer level of detail in ever facet of the presentation. And I still can't get that opening movie out of my head.
This swords-and-sorcery tale is a straightforward tactical RPG that presents one look at how the genre adapts for the current generation of systems.
Yggdra Union, instead of doing something else along that line, reinvents the tactical RPG with a variety of concepts that are found nowhere else.
The subbranch of Tactical RPGs is not immune to diversity either. ... These were the days of Shining Force and later on Final Fantasy Tactics. ... Not only do we have what could be dubbed the traditional Tactical RPG, we now have games featuring real-time combat such as Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and the upcoming Blue Dragon Plus. ... Also newer games are trying to blend the tactical side with traditional RPG elements as seen in Archaic Sealed Heat. ... Throw in some Tactical RPGs featuring mechs such as Front Mission and Zoids Assault as well as off-the-wall titles like Operation Darkness, that stars Vampires, Werewolves, Army soldiers, and Nazis.

Between remakes like Hoshigami Remix, sequels like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2, and of course Nintendo's military-based gem, Advance Wars Dual Strike, there are grid-based battlers to fit any fan's desire. ... Luminous Arc is the first DS tactical RPG to feature multiplay over WiFi
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift is a tactical RPG for the Nintendo DS developed by Square Enix. In a pattern much akin to six degrees of separation, this latest title is a distant relation to Yasumi Matsuno's Tactics Ogre, first for the Super Famicom in Japan and then remade for the PlayStation. As Matsuno's initial turn-based tactical RPG, full of political and social intrigue, Tactics Ogre reshaped the tactical mold into something that was to be used over and over again. Upon Matsuno leaving Quest and joining Square Enix, Tactics Ogre next begat Final Fantasy Tactics, another classic tactical RPG with a heavy focus on story and solid gameplay.
The most important part of War of the Lions is its slug-it-out brutal turn-based tactical fantasy combat. Minor quibbles (which we'll pick to the last nit, below) can't hobble one of the best tactical RPG systems out there.
The tactical strategy/RPG, which has been around since the original Fire Emblem on NES in Japan, gained popularity in America with Final Fantasy Tactics for PlayStation. ... While it shares most of the problems that plagued its forerunner, it's still a solid choice for anyone with an itch for a DS tactical title.
Digital for PSN, but releasing on disc for the Xbox 360, this tactical RPG with a breeding system is the risqué version from Japan with a hefty number of scantily clad females to marry.
Rondo of Swords is a strategy RPG, but it is not a typical one. Rondo does away with the classic control scheme seen in Final Fantasy Tactics, Shining Force, and Fire Emblem in favor of something completely fresh. Many other tactical RPGs have taken to playing it safe with gameplay or, in the case of some, have moved to a real-time strategy focus. Rondo of Swords takes the traditional tactical RPG gameplay and does something truly innovative with the controls.
The young hero of our story is, naturally, charged with saving the world. He is given a sword that has the soul of a demon god named Gig trapped inside of it, and once you touch it he merges his soul with yours, giving you the power to kill anything and everything. It's a nice twist on a tactical RPG, but I found myself wanting the game to end in five minutes because of it, because once you kill anything taking on the power of Gig, the game ends.
Wild ARMs XF is the latest title to join the PSP's growing list of strategy role-playing games. It's also the first Wild ARMs to go entirely down the tactical route, with developer Media Vision successfully maintaining the franchise's Wild West theme.
BLEACH: The 3rd Phantom delivers an authentic anime experience with a deep story and tactical RPG gameplay.
Blue Dragon Plus is a tactical RPG. The DS already has a few serious TRPGs out there, including Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 (a turn-based design) and also Final Fantasy XII DS, which is a real-time design. What does Blue Dragon Plus bring that's unique?
Disgaea was originally a PS2 tactical strategy game that has made its way across to the PSP and now the DS. While the DS version doesn't look near as good as the PSP title, it can still hold its own for the touch-screen system.
Atlus' new kid-friendly tactical RPG has enough depth and strategy to satisfy older genre fans, too.
Once upon a time there was a tactical RPG that was called Eternal Poison. It was blessed with the graces of being a gothic fairytale and all that the name granted. Unfortunately, the classification carried a great curse.
Solid gameplay based on a traditional tactical RPG formula
It's a wildly original game that takes the stagnant tactical RPG genre, mixes in a healthy dose of hardcore shooter gameplay (yes, really), and comes up with something unique and compelling.
Knights in the Nightmare is a rich tactical role-playing game that tells the tale of the kingdom of Aventhiem...
Luminous Arc 2's combat is similar to many other tactical RPGs. Player and enemy characters maneuver around an isometric battlefield, with every character possessing a different attack and movement range.
First off, this is a tactical RPG unlike the prior titles in the series, so everything takes place on a grid, but it's not a basic tactical game either. Some of the series elements that fans will expect to find are still there, but other things have changed dramatically.
Square-Enix brought a few original titles to the DS including one of tri-Ace's better efforts -- Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. The game deviated from the side-scrolling action/RPG play that the Valkyrie Profile series is known for, and instead presented itself as a tactical RPG.
Devil Survivor is interesting to play, because it takes a form that, to my knowledge, is completely new for the MegaTen series: tactical RPG. Yet despite branching out, it feels innately true to its heritage and at the same time quite unlike any other strategy game I've ever played.[ dead link ]
Shin Megami Tensei is a well-established franchise, but Atlus frequently likes to venture outside its comfort zone and try something new within the bounds of the franchise. Witness Devil Survivor, which couches the traditional demon hunting found in the series in a tactical RPG, but brings quite a few new elements to the table. It's one of the most interesting SRPGs I've played in years.
Popular music-based tactical RPG, originally released for the iPod, is repackaged for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Spectral Force Genesis is a tactical RPG with one goal: conquer the world. You have many means to achieve this goal: battle, strategy, and various management aspects.
