Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is a Walt Disney World event hosted at Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida on select evenings from 7:00 pm to midnight in November and December leading up to Christmas. It features several activities such as a parade, dance parties, character meet-and-greets, and complimentary treat stations. [2]

History

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party debuted in 1983. [3]

In 2014, the show A Frozen Holiday Wish replaced an earlier show that featured Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother. [4] [5]

The show on the stage in front of Cinderella Castle was Celebrate the Season which it was ran from 2002 until 2015, when it was replaced by Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration Stage Show.

From 2003 until November 8, 2019, a holiday edition of the Wishes fireworks show, Holiday Wishes, occurred during the party. [6] It included a medley of the original Wishes soundtrack with some Christmas season songs mixed in. The show started with Tinker Bell flying over the castle with narration by Jiminy Cricket. In addition, a lighting display was projected onto the castle, illuminating it in green so that it resembled a Christmas tree, and featuring Santa Claus.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party did not take place in 2020 or 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, a Very Merry After Hours Event was held in its place. [7] Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party returned in 2022, as part of Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary celebration, [3] [8] [9] and held in 2023, as part of The Walt Disney Company's 100th Anniversary celebration. The event requires the purchasing of a separate ticket from the general admission ticket counter. [11]

Events

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade

The parade proceeds down Main Street, USA twice each night. [3] [5] It features Disney characters including Mickey and Minnie Mouse along with numerous others such as Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf from Frozen , the Disney Princesses and their princes, Marching Toy Soldiers, Dancing Reindeer, Gingerbread Men, and Ole Saint Nick. [12]

Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks

Minnie Mouse hosts a firework display featuring Christmas carols such as "Deck the Halls" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". [9]

Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration Stage Show

Mickey's Most Merriest Celebration show appears four times a night on the stage in front of Cinderella Castle. It stars classic Disney and Pixar characters dressed up in their Christmas outfits. In addition, live performers sing and dance to vintage holiday carols.

A Frozen Holiday Wish

From 2008 through 2019, Cinderella Castle was covered during November in roughly 200,000 LED lights to look as if it was covered in ice and snow, an effect called Castle Dream Lights on Cinderella Castle. At dusk, a short show featuring the characters from Frozen took place in which Elsa used her ice powers to frost over the castle. The show was viewable by all guests every night during the holiday season and was repeated during the limited-admission Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. [13] [14]

The Dream Lights effect and show did not return in 2022, and in June 2023, Magic Kingdom announced new lighting and a replacement by a new show, Frozen Holiday Surprise, which will debut on November 7, 2023. as part of The Walt Disney Company's 100th Anniversary celebration. [15]

A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show

A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show is a 20-minute performance that debuted in 2009 and takes place several times a night on the Tomorrowland stage. It features Buzz Lightyear and Mike Wazowski teaching Stitch the meaning of Christmas before they've blasted Santa out of the sky. [16]

Attractions

Some popular attractions are open throughout the party. In the past, this has included The Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Unlike Haunted Mansion Holiday and It's a Small World Holiday at Disneyland and Mater's Jingle Jamboree and Luigi's Joy to the Whirl at Disney California Adventure as well as seasonal celebrations at non-US Disney parks (Holiday Nightmare and Very Merry Holidays at Tokyo Disneyland, Celebration at Disneyland Paris), the open rides do not have a holiday overlay. Jingle Cruise

While not exclusive to the party, Jingle Cruise, which debuted in 2013, is limited to the Christmas season. The original Jungle Cruise ride is modified to include a Christmas theme throughout the queue, the boats' names are changed, and the skippers make holiday jokes. [18]

Character meetups

Numerous characters appear throughout the Magic Kingdom to meet guests and pose for pictures. The characters are dressed in holiday themes exclusive to the Christmas season. Along with the regular characters who appear in the park, some rare characters, such as the seven dwarfs, make appearances for special events. [19]

There are also generally two character dance parties each night, where guests have an opportunity to dance with Disney characters like Woody and Jessie. In the past, dance parties have been held in the Diamond Horseshoe and Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café. [20] [21]

The show debuted at the park on October 9, 2003, and was developed by Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, under the direction of VP Parades & Spectaculars, Steve Davison, who was assigned to create a replacement for the 32-year-old Fantasy in the Sky fireworks. Several variations of the show at Walt Disney World include Happy HalloWishes during "Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party", Holiday Wishes during "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party", and Magic, Music and Mayhem during the 2007 event Disney's Pirate and Princess Party. The multimedia version at Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris premiered on July 16, 2005, and had its final show on August 25, 2007. The show at the Magic Kingdom was sponsored by Pandora Jewelry. The show was presented for the last time on May 11, 2017, at the Magic Kingdom Park and was replaced by Happily Ever After in the following day.

Fantasy in the Sky was the first fireworks performance at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, beginning in 1958 and running until 1996. The show also appeared at the Magic Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida from 1971 until 2003, at Tokyo Disneyland in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan from 1983 until 1988 and at Disneyland Paris from 1993 to 2005 in Marne-la-Vallee, France.

The party began as a response to the Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Florida. Main Street, USA is the first "themed land" inside the main entrance of the many theme parks operated or licensed by The Walt Disney Company around the world. In Tokyo Disneyland, it is called World Bazaar and covered by a glass Victorian-style conservatory roof to shield guests from the weather there. Disney Dreams! was a nighttime spectacular at Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris. Designed specially for the park's 20th anniversary in 2012, the show originally ran from 1 April 2012 to 24 March 2017, when it was replaced by Disney Illuminations. Celebrate the Magic was a nighttime show at the Magic Kingdom park of Walt Disney World, that premiered on November 13, 2012. It replaced The Magic, the Memories and You display, a similar show that ran at the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland from January 2011 to September 4, 2012.

<i>Once Upon a Time</i> (Disney parks) Nighttime spectacular

Once Upon a Time was a nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom, which was originally known in Magic Kingdom as its full name, Once Upon A Time: Where Stories Take You Anywhere and formerly at Tokyo Disneyland. Similar to Celebrate the Magic and Disney Dreams!, the Tokyo show premiered on May 29, 2014, and utilizes fireworks, lasers, fire, projection mapping, and searchlights during the 19-minute presentation. The Magic Kingdom version is shorter and utilizes less pyrotechnics and no fire.

<i>Disney Illuminations</i> Former nighttime fireworks and projection show

Disney Illuminations is a nighttime spectacular at Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris. It opened on 26 March 2017 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the park and replaced Disney Dreams!. Based on Ignite the Dream, the former nighttime spectacular at Shanghai Disneyland, the show featured projection mapping onto the park's castle, fireworks, water fountains, fire, music, lasers, searchlights, and other special effects.

<i>Disney Enchantment</i> Nighttime fireworks show at Magic Kingdom

Disney Enchantment is a fireworks and projection mapping show that debuted at the Magic Kingdom on September 30, 2021, as part of Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration. Similar to its predecessor, Happily Ever After, the show features fireworks, projection mapping, lasers, and searchlights set to Disney music that extend from Cinderella Castle down to Main Street, U.S.A. The music also includes a new original song "You Are the Magic" performed by Phillip Lawrence and Kayla Alvarez.
