Mount Adams is a 3,520-foot-tall (1,070 m) mountain located in Essex County of New York. Atop the mountain is the Mount Adams Fire Observation Station, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
The Shawangunk Ridge, also known as the Shawangunk Mountains or The Gunks, is a ridge of bedrock in Ulster County, Sullivan County and Orange County in the state of New York, extending from the northernmost point of the border with New Jersey to the Catskills. The Shawangunk Ridge is a continuation of the long, easternmost section of the Appalachian Mountains; the ridge is known as Kittatinny Mountain in New Jersey, and as Blue Mountain as it continues through Pennsylvania. This ridge constitutes the western border of the Great Appalachian Valley.
The Finger Lakes Trail consists of a network of trails in New York. The trail system is administered by the Finger Lakes Trail Conference (FLTC), a non-profit organization, composed primarily of volunteers.
Ingraham Hill is a mountain in the Southern Tier of New York. It is located south-southwest of Binghamton in Broome County. The mountain contains the television and radio broadcast towers for the surrounding metropolitan area. The summit rises to an elevation of 1,824 feet (556 m). These towers include TV stations WBNG, WICZ, WIVT, WSKG-TV and radio stations WNBF, WAAL, WWYL and many more. The towers are visible throughout the region.
Berlin Mountain is a 2,799-foot-tall (853 m) prominent peak in the Taconic Mountains of western New England and is located adjacent to Massachusetts's border with New York State. It is the highest point in Rensselaer County. The summit and west side of the mountain are located in New York; the east side lies within Williamstown, Massachusetts. The mountain is a bald, notable for its grassy summit and expansive views of the Hudson River Valley to the west. The 37-mile (60 km) Taconic Crest Trail traverses the mountain. Several other hiking trails approach the summit from the east. Much of the upper slopes and summit are within protected conservation land. Historically the lower slopes of the mountain were farmed heavily throughout the 19th Century. In addition to agriculture, there are several remnants of charcoal kilns located on the mountain that produced fuel for iron smelting.
Alander Mountain is a 2,241-foot-tall (683 m) prominent peak of the south Taconic Mountains; it is located in southwest Massachusetts and adjacent New York. Part of the summit is grassy and open and part is covered with scrub oak and shrubs; the sides of the mountain are wooded with northern hardwood tree species. Views from the top include the southern Taconic Mountains, the Hudson River Valley including the Catskills. Several trails traverse Alander Mountain, most notably the 15.7 mi (25.3 km) South Taconic Trail, which passes just beneath the summit.
The Red Hill Fire Observation Station consists of a fire lookout tower, cabin and pit privy located on the summit of Red Hill, a 2,990-foot (910 m) Catskill Mountain peak in Denning, New York, United States. It is the southernmost fire tower in the Catskill Park.
Beebe Hill State Forest is a state forest in the town of Austerlitz, Columbia County, New York, United States. Compromising 1,383 acres (560 ha) in the Taconic Mountains, it adjoins Harvey Mountain State Forest to the southeast. With around 30 mi (48 km) of multiple-use trails, the area is managed for environmental protection, recreation, and timber harvesting. The 6.5-acre (2.6 ha) Barrett Pond is located within the state forest on the west side of Columbia County Route 5, and was home to numerous fish species when last sampled in 1983.
Whites Hill is a 1,427-foot-tall (435 m) mountain in the northern Adirondack Mountains of New York. It is located southeast of Parishville in St. Lawrence County. The mountain is the former site of an 80-foot-tall (24 m) steel fire lookout tower that was in service from 1951 to 1971.
Page Pond Hill is a mountain in the Southern Tier of New York. It is located north-northwest of Sanford in Broome County. In 1935, a 79-foot-6-inch-tall (24.23 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1988 fire lookout season, and later closed. The site is on private property and is not open to the public.
Alma Hill is a 2,543-foot-tall (775 m) mountain in the Southern Tier of New York. It is located southwest of Wellsville in Allegany County. In 1950, an 80-foot-tall (24 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. Due to the increased use of aerial detection, the tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1971 fire lookout season. In 1973, the tower was sold to the landowner where the tower stood.
Gomer Hill is a 2,106-foot-tall (642 m) mountain in the Tug Hill region of New York. It is located west-northwest of Turin in Lewis County. In 1940, a 67-foot-6-inch-tall (20.57 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1988 season, and officially closed the next year. The tower site is open to the public, but the tower is closed and used as an antenna support structure.
Dairy Hill is a 1,844-foot-tall (562 m) summit located in Central New York Region of New York located in the Town of Norway in Herkimer County, southeast of Norway. The mountain is the former location of a 79-foot-6-inch-tall (24.23 m) steel fire lookout tower.
McCarty Hill is a mountain in the Southern Tier of New York. It is located in Cattaraugus County, mostly in Little Valley and Great Valley, with portions in Ellicottville and Mansfield. In 1940, a 82-foot-6-inch-tall (25.15 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations and then officially closed in early 1989. In 1993, the tower was dismantled and removed, and replaced with a free standing communications tower.
Sproul Hill is a mountain in the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is located in west of Watkins Glen in Schuyler County. The mountain is the location of a 67-foot-6-inch-tall (20.57 m) steel fire lookout tower known as the Sugar Hill Fire Tower which was built in 1941. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of 1988, and remains on the mountain and is open to the public.
Jersey Hill is a 2,251-foot-long (686 m) mountain in the Southern Tier of New York. It is located Wells northeast of the hamlet of Allegany County. In 1935, a 79-foot-6-inch-long (24.23 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The Jersey Hill tower was only staffed on an as-needed basis by the Division of Lands and Forests. Due to increased use of aerial fire detection, the tower ceased fire lookout operations and was removed in August 1987.
Cornell Hill is a 430-foot-tall (130 m) mountain in the Capital District, New York#Capital District of New York. It is located northeast of Round Lake in Saratoga County. In 1923, a 60-foot-tall (18 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. Due to increased use of aerial detection, the tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1970 fire lookout season. In summer 2008, the tower was moved to the former Boy Scout Camp Saratoga.
Gallis Hill is a 794-foot-tall (242 m) mountain in the Catskill Mountains region of New York. It is located northwest of Kingston in Ulster County. Jockey Hill is located north-northeast, and Morgan Hill is located west of Gallis Hill. In 1927, the Conservation Department built a steel fire lookout tower on the mountain. In 1950, the tower was closed and disassembled then moved to Overlook Mountain, where it still remains today.
Kempshall Mountain is a 3,350-foot-tall (1,020 m) mountain located in Adirondack Mountains of New York. It is located in the northwest of the hamlet of Long Lake in Hamilton County. In 1918, a 35-foot-tall (11 m) Aermotor LS40 tower was built on the mountain for fire lookout purposes. Due to aerial detection being used, the tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1971 season. The tower was later removed, and portions of the tower along with the tower from West Mountain were used to build the tower that is at the Essex County Historical Museum in Elizabethtown.
Mount Tuscarora is a mountain in the Southern Tier of New York. It is located within Allegany State Park in Coldspring, Cattaraugus County. In 1928, a 60-foot-tall (18 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower remains on the mountain but needs to be restored. The peak is the tallest in the Allegany State Park among those that have a trail to the summit, at 2,144 ft above sea level.
