Premise

The series follows a group of recruits for the Navajo Police Training Academy in Navajo Nation, over the course of a year. Additionally following them out in the field, where they must deal with rising crime rates and centuries of neglect in the community. [1]

Production

While the series was in development, Kahlil Hudson and Alex Jablonski earned the trust of the community, proving themselves and their intentions to the police department and recruits. [2]

In October 2023, it was announced Kahlil Hudson, Alex Jablonski and David Nordstrom had directed the series, with Davis Guggenheim and Blackhorse Lowe executive producing, HBO Documentary Films and Concordia Studio producing. [3] [4]

<i>Police Academy</i> (franchise) Series of comedy films

Police Academy is a series of American comedy films, the first six of which were made in the 1980s and the seventh in 1994. The series opened with Police Academy (1984), which started with the premise that a new mayor had announced a policy requiring the police department to accept all willing recruits. Project Greenlight first aired on HBO for two seasons before moving to Bravo for season three in 2005. The series returned in 2015 for a fourth season airing on HBO. On July 26, 2016, the series was canceled. In May 2021, HBO Max picked up the series with an 8-episode order and will be produced by Issa Rae through her production company Hoorae Media. The revival titled Project Greenlight: A New Generation premiered on July 13, 2023.

The Navajo Nation Police is the law enforcement agency on the Navajo Nation in the Southwestern United States. It is under the Navajo Division of Public Safety. It is headed by a Chief of Police, six Police Captains and eight Police Lieutenants. It includes: Internal Affairs, Patrol, K-9 Unit, Police diving, Tactical Operations Team, Traffic Unit, Fiscal management, Recruitment, and Training Divisions. The Navajo Nation Police are responsible for seven districts: Chinle, Crownpoint, Dilkon, Kayenta, Shiprock, Tuba City, and Window Rock. Karim Amer is an Egyptian-American film producer and director. He worked on The Square (2013) and The Great Hack (2019); the former was the first Egyptian film to earn an Academy Award nomination and went on to win three Emmy Awards, while the latter got nominated for an Emmy and a BAFTA Award. In 2020, he produced and directed The Vow, an HBO documentary series about the self-improvement group, NXIVM. In 2022, he produced and directed Flight/Risk for Amazon Studios, revolving around whistleblowers at Boeing.
