Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is surrounded on the north, west, and southwest by the Canadian province of Ontario, and on the south and east by the U.S. state of New York, whose water boundaries meet in the middle of the lake. Ontario, Canada's most populous province, was named for the lake.
Lake Huron is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. Hydrologically, it comprises the easterly portion of Lake Michigan–Huron, having the same surface elevation as its westerly counterpart, to which it is connected by the 5-mile-wide (8.0 km), 20-fathom-deep Straits of Mackinac. It is shared on the north and east by the Canadian province of Ontario and on the south and west by the U.S. state of Michigan. The name of the lake is derived from early French explorers who named it for the Huron people inhabiting the region. The Huronian glaciation was named from evidence collected from Lake Huron region. The northern parts of the lake include the North Channel and Georgian Bay. Saginaw Bay is located in the southwest corner of the lake. The main inlet is the St. Marys River, and the main outlet is the St. Clair River.
Hamilton County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,836, making it the least populous county in New York. With an area nearly the size of Delaware, but with a population in 2019 of only 4,416, it is the least densely populated county east of the Mississippi River. Its county seat is Lake Pleasant. The county is named after Alexander Hamilton, the only member of the New York State delegation who signed the United States Constitution in 1787 and later the first United States Secretary of the Treasury. The county was created in 1816 and organized in 1847.

Piseco is a small community in the town of Arietta in Hamilton County, New York, United States. The name "Piseco" is that of a Native American known to an early surveyor. Located in the heart of the Adirondacks, the hamlet is home to Piseco Lake and Piseco Airport. The Northville–Placid Trail runs close to Piseco Lake and the airport. The village of Speculator lies 10 miles (16 km) east of Piseco Lake.
New York State Route 10 (NY 10) is a north–south state highway in the Central New York and North Country regions of New York in the United States. It extends for 155 miles (249 km) from the Quickway (NY 17) in Deposit, Delaware County to NY 8 at Higgins Bay, a hamlet in the Hamilton County town of Arietta. NY 10 begins concurrent with NY 8. While NY 8 follows a more westerly alignment between Deposit and Higgins Bay via Utica, NY 10 veers to the east, serving Delhi, Cobleskill, and Canajoharie. Along the way, the road intersects Interstate 88 (I-88) near Cobleskill and U.S. Route 20 (US 20) in Sharon Springs.
The Silver Lake Wilderness Area, an Adirondack Park unit of the Forest Preserve, is located in the towns of Lake Pleasant, Benson, Wells and Arietta in Hamilton County and is roughly bounded on the north by NY 8 and private lands near Piseco Lake, Oxbow Lake, Hamilton Lake, Sand Lake and Lake Pleasant; on the east by NY 30; on the south generally by the Hamilton County line; and on the west by NY 10, the West Branch of the Sacandaga River and the Piseco Outlet.

The Jessup River Wild Forest is a 47,350 acres (191.6 km2) Forest Preserve area in the towns of Lake Pleasant, Arietta, Indian Lake, and Wells in Hamilton County. NY-28 is the border of the forest to the north and NY-30 is the border of the forest in the southeast. West Canada Lake Wilderness Area is located to the west, Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area is located to the east, and the Silver Lake Wilderness Area to the south. Indian Lake, Piseco, Speculator, and Wells are located near or within the Jessup River Wild Forest. There are many trails to hike on, and many rivers and lakes to canoe or fish on within the forest which includes Jessup River. Part of the Northville-Placid Trail is located within the forest.
Higgins Bay formally called Lower Rudeston is a hamlet located in the Town of Arietta in Hamilton County, New York. Higgins Bay is located on the south shore of Piseco Lake, located on a small bay in the lake, also called Higgins Bay. It is on NY-8, north of the junction of Routes NY-8 and NY-10.
