The Toyota Corolla (E160) is the eleventh generation of the Toyota Corolla that is sold in Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Singapore and Sri Lanka. For international markets, the larger and substantially different Corolla (E170/E180) is offered instead. The E160 was derived from the Toyota B platform, unlike the E170/E180, which was based on the New MC platform.
As with the preceding E140 models, the sedan/saloon version of the E160 is named Corolla Axio in the Japanese market; the station wagon/estate version carries the Corolla Fielder designation.
The eleventh generation of the Corolla went on sale in Japan in May 2012. [5] Both are made by a Toyota subsidiary, Central Motors, in Miyagi prefecture, Japan. [6]
The Japanese market Corolla (Axio) is shorter in length and narrower in width, and engines are kept below 2.0-litres, so as to be in compliance with Japanese Government dimension regulations so that Japanese buyers have a reduced road tax.
Trim levels available for the Axio are Luxel (later replaced by WXB package for G), G, and X. This is also true for the Corolla Fielder (wagon variant), although the Fielder also includes a 1.8S and a 1.8S AeroTourer WXB (later replaced by 1.8S WXB) trim.
Toyota released hybrid versions of the Corolla Axio sedan and Corolla Fielder station wagon for the Japanese market in August 2013. Both cars are equipped with a 1.5-litre hybrid system similar to the one used in the Toyota Prius c, with a fuel efficiency of 3.03 L/100 km (93.2 mpg‑imp; 77.6 mpg‑US) under the JC08 test cycle. [7]
The Mitsuoka Ryugi sedan and wagon for the Japanese market was based on the E160 Corolla. [8]

In Hong Kong, the Corolla was based on the Japanese market model, [11] initially available with the 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE engine in Advantage and Luxury trim levels. [12] The smaller 1.5 L engine and car size contributes to a lower vehicle license levy.
In April 2015, Toyota in Hong Kong released the facelift model with the 1.5-litre 2NR-FKE engine in Luxury and Super Luxury trim levels. [13] [14]
The Corolla sold in Hong Kong is made in Japan, although it does vary from the Japanese market model with minor revisions to the interior, such as the inclusion of the tachometer and automatic climate air conditioning control in the Super Luxury variant.
The wagon is also sold in New Zealand, aimed primarily at business and fleet customers. Available solely in GX trim, it includes a tachometer, but otherwise is very similar to the Japanese model wagon. Manual transmission and CVT are both available. [15] Toyota New Zealand released the facelift model in July 2015. [16] [17]
The E160 Corolla sourced from Japan is also available in Singapore as the Corolla Axio in both petrol (X and G trims) and hybrid variants via imported dealerships. [18]
The E160 Corolla sedan and station wagon sourced from Japan were available from 2013 in Bangladesh. It was available in X, G and WXB trims with the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE petrol engine and the 1NZ-FXE hybrid engine. They are imported and sold by used car importers.[ citation needed ]
In April 2015, Toyota released the facelift versions of the Corolla Axio and Corolla Fielder in Japan. This version featured a raised front bumper, revised headlamps with LED projector lens and grille, revised front fenders, revised tail lamps and "Toyota Safety Sense" collision avoidance system.
On 10 October 2017, Toyota released a second facelift to the Corolla Axio and Corolla Fielder in Japan. This version featured a revised front bumper and grille, an intelligent clearance sonar (parking support brake) and standard "Toyota Safety Sense".
The E160 Corolla was mainly replaced by the larger E210 Corolla in September 2019. However, it is still produced as a fleet vehicle as of 2022 [update] . [1] On 27 August 2019, the EX trim was announced, replacing the X trim, specializing in demand for business users. The engine lineup includes 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre hybrid versions, with "Toyota Safety Sense" and a smart entry and start system as standard equipment, and all four colour variations. In 2023 a minor third facelift occurred that added smoked out headlights and taillights and standard LED projection lights.
The Toyota Corolla is a series of compact cars manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The Toyota Starlet is a subcompact car manufactured by Toyota from 1973 until 1999, replacing the Publica, but retaining the Publica's "P" code and generation numbering. The first generation Starlet was sold as the Publica Starlet in some markets. In Japan, it was exclusive to Toyota Corolla Store dealers.
The Toyota Vitz is a subcompact car produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota from 1999 to 2019 in a three- or five-door hatchback body styles. The "Vitz" nameplate was used consistently in Japan, while most international markets received the same vehicle as the Toyota Yaris, or as the Toyota Echo in some markets for the first generation. The Vitz was available in Japan from Toyota's Netz Store dealerships. Toyota began production in Japan and later assembled the vehicle in other Asian countries and in France.
The Toyota Corona is an automobile manufactured by the Japanese automaker Toyota across eleven generations between 1957 and 2001. On launch, the Corona was Toyota's second-highest product in their range, just below the Crown. The Corona was marketed in the JDM at Toyota's Toyopet Store dealership channels, and the Corona was one of Toyota's first models exported to other global markets, followed by the smaller Toyota Corolla.
The Toyota Sprinter is a compact car manufactured by Toyota as a variant of the Toyota Corolla. Exclusively sold in the Japanese domestic market, the Sprinter was aimed to be sportier than its Corolla sibling and also using different sheet metal mostly on the C-pillar. The Sprinter and various body styles were exclusive to Toyota Auto Store until 1977 when the Toyota Chaser took the top position. The Corolla is similarly unique to Toyota Corolla Store until the Toyota Celica was offered in 1970, which took the top position. In 1998 Toyota Auto Store and Toyota Vista Store were both replaced by Netz Store.
The Toyota NZ engine family is a straight-4 piston engine series. The 1NZ series uses aluminum engine blocks and DOHC cylinder heads. It also uses sequential fuel injection, and has 4 valves per cylinder with VVT-i.
The Toyota Mark II is a compact, later mid-size sedan manufactured and marketed in Japan by Toyota between 1968 and 2004. Prior to 1972, the model was marketed as the Toyota Corona Mark II. In most export markets, Toyota marketed the vehicle as the Toyota Cressida between 1976 and 1992 across four generations. Toyota replaced the rear-wheel-drive Cressida in North America with the front-wheel-drive Avalon. Every Mark II and Cressida was manufactured at the Motomachi plant at Toyota, Aichi, Japan from September 1968 to October 1993, and later at Toyota Motor Kyushu's Miyata plant from December 1992 to October 2000, with some models also assembled in Jakarta, Indonesia and Parañaque, Philippines as the Cressida.
The Toyota Tercel is a subcompact car manufactured by Toyota from 1978 until 1999 across five generations, in five body configurations sized between the Corolla and the Starlet. Manufactured at the Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Japan, and sharing its platform with the Cynos and the Starlet, the Tercel was marketed variously as the Toyota Corolla II—sold at Toyota Japanese dealerships called Toyota Corolla Stores—and was replaced by the Platz in 1999. It was also known as the Toyota Corsa and sold at Toyopet Store locations. Starting with the second generation, the Tercel dealership network was changed to Vista Store, as its badge engineered sibling, the Corolla II, was exclusive to Corolla Store locations.
The Toyota Crown is an automobile which has been produced by Toyota in Japan since 1955. It is primarily a line of mid-size luxury cars that is marketed as an upmarket offering in the Toyota lineup.
The Toyota Belta, marketed as the Vios in selected Asian markets and elsewhere as the Yaris sedan, is a subcompact sedan manufactured by Toyota.
The Toyota Vios is a nameplate used for subcompact cars produced by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota, primarily for markets in Southeast Asia, China and Taiwan since 2002. Slotted below the compact Corolla, the Vios serves as the replacement to the Tercel, which filled the subcompact or B-segment sedan class in the region. It is also successor to the entry-level variants of the E110 series Corolla in some markets such as the Philippines and Vietnam.
The Nissan Serena is a minivan manufactured by Nissan, joining the slightly larger Vanette. The car was engineered by Nissan's Aichi Manufacturing Division and launched in 1991 as a compact passenger van, and it grew larger with each generation over the years. Earlier versions were front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a live axle mounted on leaf springs.
The Toyota Auris is a compact car derived from the Corolla, manufactured and sold by Toyota. Introduced in 2006, the first generation three/five-door hatchback shared the platform with the E150 series Corolla, while the second generation five-door hatchback and station wagon called "Touring Sports" uses the E180 platform. The "Auris" name is based on the Latin word for "gold", "aurum".
The Corolla E70 was the fourth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate.
The Corolla E90 was the sixth generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate, introduced in 1987 for the 1988 model year. It was the last generation of Corolla to be classified as a subcompact car and the first to be exclusively front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; the performance option of rear-wheel drive was dropped.
The Corolla E100 was the seventh generation of cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate. This generation of Corolla was larger, heavier, and visually more aerodynamic than the model it replaced. With its 2,465 mm (97.0 in) wheelbase, the Corolla had moved into the compact size class once occupied by the Corona and Camry. The Corolla again had an equivalent model Sprinter, with the Sprinter Trueno being equivalent to the Corolla Levin and both exclusive to Toyota Vista Store Japanese dealerships.
The Toyota Corolla (E120/E130) is the ninth generation of compact cars sold by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate. In Japan, this series arrived to the market in August 2000; however, exports were typically not achieved until 2001 and 2002 depending on the market.
The Toyota Corolla (E140/E150) is the tenth generation of cars marketed by Toyota under the Corolla nameplate. The Toyota Auris replaced the Corolla hatchback in Japan and Europe, but remained badged as a "Corolla" in Australia and New Zealand.
The E170/E180 series Toyota Corolla is the eleventh-generation of the Corolla that has been sold internationally since 2013. Two basic front and rear styling treatments are fitted to the E170—a North American version that debuted first—and a more conservative design for all other markets that debuted later in 2013. For the Japanese and Hong Kong markets, the smaller Japanese-made E160 model is offered instead; the Japanese-made version remains compliant with Japanese government dimension regulations. The E170/E180 has an increased wheelbase that is 100 mm (3.9 in) longer than the previous generation. The E170/E180 was derived from the Toyota New MC platform, unlike the E160, which was based on the B platform.
The Toyota Corolla (E210) is the twelfth generation of the Corolla, a compact car (C-segment) manufactured by Toyota. Introduced in 2018, this generation has also grown to include hatchback and estate configurations in addition to the saloon (sedan).
