Reaction of americium and nitric acid:

8 Am + 30 HNO3 → 8 Am(NO3)3 + 3 N2O + 15 H2O

Chemical properties

Americium(III) nitrate thermally decomposes to form americium(III) oxide.[ citation needed ]

It forms crystal hydrates.[ citation needed ]
