Anas Al-Sharif (born 3 December 1996) is a Palestinian journalist and senior Al Jazeera correspondent from the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, Palestine. [1] [2] Al-Sharif is Al Jazeera's senior-most reporter in the Gaza Strip since the evacuation of former bureau chief Wael Dahdouh. [3]
Al-Sharif was born in the Jabalia refugee camp and attended Al-Aqsa University, where he studied broadcast journalism. [4]
On September 23, 2018, Al-Sharif was injured by shrapnel from a live bullet in the abdomen while covering a march organized northeast of Jabalia during the Great March of Return.[ citation needed]
Al-Sharif's family home was hit in an Israeli airstrike in early December 2023 during the Gaza genocide, killing Al-Sharif's 90-year-old father; the attack was condemned by the Committee to Protect Journalists. [5] [6]
In 2024, Amnesty International awarded him as a 2024 Human Rights Defender for his work. [7] [8] In August 2024, Al-Sharif faced threats from the Israeli military. [9]
