Victoria Island is a large island in the Arctic Archipelago that straddles the boundary between Nunavut and the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is the eighth-largest island in the world, and at 217,291 km2 (83,897 sq mi)1 in area, it is Canada's second-largest island. It is nearly double the size of Newfoundland (111,390 km2 [43,010 sq mi]), and is slightly larger than the island of Great Britain (209,331 km2 [80,823 sq mi]) but smaller than Honshu (225,800 km2 [87,200 sq mi]). The western third of the island lies in the Inuvik Region of the Northwest Territories; the remainder is part of Nunavut's Kitikmeot Region. The population of 2,168 is divided between two settlements, the larger of which is Cambridge Bay (Nunavut) and the other Ulukhaktok.
Mount Forbes is the seventh tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies and the tallest within the boundaries of Banff National Park. It is located in southwestern Alberta, 18 km (11 mi) southwest of the Saskatchewan River Crossing in Banff. The mountain was named by James Hector in 1859 after Edward Forbes, Hector's natural history professor at the University of Edinburgh during the mid-19th century.
Athabasca Pass is a high mountain pass in the Canadian Rockies on the border between Alberta and British Columbia. In fur trade days it connected Jasper House on the Athabasca River with Boat Encampment on the Columbia River.
Gurd Township is an historical geographic township in central Ontario, Canada, in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District. It was first surveyed in 1875 and was named after Robert Sinclair Gurd, a businessman and one-time mayor of Sarnia. In 1970, Gurd was annexed by the incorporated Nipissing.
The Esk'etemc First Nation, also known as the Alkali Lake Indian Band, is a First Nations government of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) people, located at Alkali Lake in the Cariboo region of the Central Interior of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It was created when the government of the then-Colony of British Columbia established an Indian reserve system in the 1860s. It is one of three Secwepemc bands that is not a member of either the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council or the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council.
Railroad Pass, 1,385 m (4,544 ft), usually known locally as Railway Pass, is a mountain pass in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Traversed by a seasonal dirt road known as the Hurley Main and sometimes also referred to therefore as Hurley Pass, the pass connects the Pemberton Meadows area of the upper valley of the Lillooet River, via Railroad Creek, to the uppermost reaches of the Hurley River, the main south fork of the Bridge River which the Hurley joins at the settlement of Gold Bridge.
The Nazko First Nation is a First Nations government of the Dakelh people in the north-central Interior of British Columbia. Its reserves are located around the community of Nazko, British Columbia, which is 120 km west of Quesnel and southwest of Prince George.
The Bush River is a tributary of the Columbia River in the Columbia Country of southeastern British Columbia, Canada, entering that river via the Bush Arm of Kinbasket Lake. Named for the dense vegetation lining its banks, its headwaters are at 52°05′N117°30′W, in the Rocky Mountains. Its former confluence with the Columbia was at 51°44′30″N117°38′10″W, now beneath the waters of Bush Arm; a few miles above the river's new mouth is the confluence of the Valenciennes River. The Bush has also been designated the North Fork Bush River, while the Valenciennes was known as the South Fork Bush River ; — Bush Pass is at the head of the Valenciennes, rather than the Bush.
The Valenciennes River is a tributary of the Bush River, entering that river just above its mouth into Kinbasket Lake, the reservoir on the Columbia River created by the Mica Dam in southeastern British Columbia, Canada. The Valenciennes was originally known as the South Fork Bush River. Headwaters form on the south slope of Valenciennes Mountain. Approximately halfway through the course of the river, the Valenciennes receives Icefall Brook on the right, flowing South from Cerberus Falls.
Griswold Pass is a mountain pass in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, located at the head of Nichols Creek, a tributary of the upper Bridge River (S), and the head of Griswold Creek, a tributary of the Lord River (N), which feeds the Taseko Lakes and is effectively a tributary of the Taseko River. The Nichols Creek area is part of the volcanic formation known as the Bridge River Cones, while to the north of the pass the Taseko Lakes basin is part of Tsy'los Provincial Park.
Wedge Pass, also known as Billygoat Pass, 1,430 m (4,690 ft), is a mountain pass in the northern Garibaldi Ranges, the southwesternmost subdivisions of the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. Located immediately on the southern flank of Wedge Mountain and to the immediate north of the Spearhead Range, site of the Blackcomb half of the Whistler Blackcomb Ski Area, it connects the head of Wedge Creek (W), a tributary of the Green River with those of Billgoat Creek (E), a tributary of the Lillooet River. The pass is within Garibaldi Provincial Park and has no road access.
The Tottenham Range is a small mountain range in southwestern British Columbia, Canada, located between Seymour Inlet and at the head of Belize Inlet. It has an area of 46 km2 and is a subrange of the Pacific Ranges which in turn form part of the Coast Mountains.
The Rocky Mountain Foothills are an upland area flanking the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains, extending from the Liard River in British Columbia southward into Alberta. Bordering the Interior Plains system, they are part of the Rocky Mountain System or Eastern System of the Western Cordillera of North America.
Kitselas First Nation is the band government of the Kitselas subgroup of the Tsimshian. The band government is based at Gitaus in the Skeena Valley in the Skeena River valley to the northeast of the city of Terrace, British Columbia, Canada. Though there is no Tsimshian tribal council, they are a participant in the Tsimshian First Nations treaty council.
McGregor Pass, 1,555 metres (5,102 ft), is a mountain pass located on the Continental Divide in the Canadian Rockies and near the head of the McGregor River, to the north of Wishaw Mountain and to the west of Kakwa Pass, which is in the same vicinity. McGregor Pass forms the division between the Hart Ranges of the Rockies, which begin at Mount Sir Alexander just to the northwest and extend to the Peace Reach of Lake Williston, and the Continental Ranges, the largest and most well-known segment of the Canadian Rockies, which extend to Marias Pass, at the head of the North Fork Flathead River in Montana, United States.
Tonquin Pass, 1948 m (6393 ft), is a mountain pass in the Canadian Rockies, linking Tonquin Valley in Jasper National Park, Alberta, to Mount Robson Provincial Park and adjoining areas of British Columbia. It is at the headwaters of Tonquin Creek, which flows into British Columbia. Located on the interprovincial boundary, it is on the Continental Divide.
The Nelson Range is a subrange of the Selkirk Mountains in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. It is located south of the west arm of Kootenay Lake between the Salmo (W) and Kootenay Rivers (E) and also to the west of the south arm of Kootenay Lake. The range gets its name from the City of Nelson, which is on the south bank of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake and at the foot of the range's northwestern slopes.
