The Chenango Canal was a towpath canal built and operated in the mid-19th century in central New York in the United States. It was 97 miles long and for much of its course followed the Chenango River, along Rt. 12 N-S from Binghamton on the south end to Utica on the north end. It operated from 1834 to 1878 and provided a significant link in the water transportation system of the northeastern U.S., connecting the Susquehanna River to the Erie Canal.
The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park is located in the District of Columbia and the state of Maryland. The park was established in 1961 as a National Monument by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to preserve the neglected remains of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and many of its original structures. The canal and towpath trail extends along the Potomac River from Georgetown, Washington, D.C., to Cumberland, Maryland, a distance of 184.5 miles (296.9 km). In 2013, the path was designated as the first section of U.S. Bicycle Route 50.

Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, also known as Erie Canal National Historic Landmark, is a historic district that includes the ruins of the Erie Canal aqueduct over Schoharie Creek, and a 3.5-mile (5.6 km) long part of the Erie Canal, in the towns of Glen and Florida within Montgomery County, New York. It was the first part of the old canal to be designated a National Historic Landmark, prior to the designation of the entire New York State Barge Canal as a NHL in 2017.
Erie Canal Lock 52 Complex is a national historic district located at Port Byron and Mentz in Cayuga County, New York. The district includes two contributing buildings ; three contributing engineering structures ; and archaeological sites associated with the canal operations. Lock 52 was constructed 1849-1853 as part of the Enlarged Erie Canal program. It remained in operation until the rerouting of the canal under the New York State Barge Canal System in 1917. The Erie House was built in 1894 and is a two-story frame structure that housed a saloon and hotel.
Seneca River Crossing Canals Historic District is a national historic district located at Montezuma and Tyre in Cayuga and Seneca Counties, New York. The district includes more than a mile of the Enlarged Erie Canal prism ; towpath and heelpath; a drydock; the remains of the Richmond (Montezuma) Aqueduct crossing the Seneca River; remnants of the original Erie Canal, built between 1817 and 1825 and including Lock #62 and piers of the original mule bridge from that era; and a culvert that carries a stream beneath the Enlarged Erie Canal.
Five Lock Combine and Locks 37 and 38, Black River Canal is a national historic district located in the Boonville Gorge Park at Boonville in Oneida County, New York. The district includes seven locks of the abandoned Black River Canal, including the five lock combine. The locks are 90 by 15 feet and could accommodate boats of 70 tons. The original locks were built about 1850 and rebuilt between 1887 and 1900. The canal closed in 1924.
Earlville Historic District is a national historic district located at Earlville in Chenango and Madison County, New York. The district contains 164 contributing buildings. It includes the commercial area at the center of the village and residential areas on the main thoroughfares and two side streets. Most of the buildings in the district were built between 1880 and 1920. Located within the district is the separately listed Earlville Opera House.

The district has 45 contributing buildings and includes two parks, governmental buildings, cultural and commercial buildings. Notable buildings include the Chenango County Courthouse (1837), Sheriff's office (1905), County Clerk's office (1852), First Baptist Church (1845), Maurice S. Ireland Building (1880), Old Norwich Hotel, City Hall (1903), and the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad Depot (1902). Also in the district is the separately listed US Post Office-Norwich.
South Otselic Historic District is a national historic district located at South Otselic in Chenango County, New York. The district includes 60 contributing buildings. It encompasses the hamlet's historic core and includes commercial, residential, ecclesiastical, and industrial buildings. Among the notable buildings are the Methodist Church, Gladding Corporation factory and office (1895), J. Brown Grist Mill, Noonan's Blacksmith Shop (1870), Cox Block, and Dew Drop Building. Notable residences include the Octagon House and the Queen Anne style Former Gladding Mansion.
US Post Office-Norwich is a historic post office building located at Norwich in Chenango County, New York, United States. It was built in 1932–1933, and is one of a number of post offices in New York State built by the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department. It was designed by architect George Ketcham of Syracuse. It is a one-story brick building ornamented with elaborate cast stone details in the Colonial Revival style. It is located within the Chenango County Courthouse District.
Enlarged Erie Canal Historic District (Discontiguous) is a national historic district located at Cohoes in Albany County, New York. It includes two contributing buildings and 10 contributing structures. It encompasses resources associated with the Enlarged Erie Canal, 1835–1862, Locks 9 through 18, and located within the City of Cohoes. The district includes five numbered units with each unit representing a cohesive grouping of resources highlighted by one or more extant canal locks. Each unit consists of at least one remaining lock and the associated elements including sections of towpath, berm walls, engineering features, and canal prism.
Rockwells Mills Historic District is a national historic district located at Guilford in Chenango County, New York. The district includes 26 contributing buildings including approximately 20 houses with associated houses and a stone textile mill. Included is the large Italianate style Crandall Residence (1867–1868), historically the mill owners house, and the stone mill building. The other residences are disbursed along New York State Route 8. In 1947, the mill was converted for use as a restaurant.
