City Park is a mixed-use neighbourhood located near the center of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It comprises a mix of single-family detached homes, apartment buildings and other semi-detached dwellings. It also contains a number of commercial zones with businesses. As of 2009, the area was home to 4,405 residents. The neighbourhood is considered a middle-income area, with an average family income of $42,236, an average dwelling value of $245,254 and a home ownership rate of 28.6%. [1]
City Park was originally known as Central Park and first had a golf course. In 1903, the annual exhibition was moved from the Louise Grounds in Nutana to City Park, and a horse racing track and grandstand were constructed. By 1910, the exhibition had moved to its permanent home in the city's south end. [2] The outline of the old racetrack can still be seen in what is now Kinsmen Park.
City Park was one of the first areas annexed by the city after its incorporation in 1906. [3] The Alexander Residence, built in 1912 on Spadina Crescent, was named for Dr. Harold E. and Edith Alexander, who owned the house from 1916 to 1946. It is one of the city's most notable examples of pre-World War I Arts and Crafts architecture. [4] It was designated a municipal heritage property on May 12, 2001. [5]
City Park exists within the federal electoral district of Saskatoon West. It is currently represented by Sheri Benson of the New Democratic Party, first elected in 2015. [6]
Provincially, the area is within the constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin. It is currently represented by Ryan Meili of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party, first elected in a 2017 by-election. [7]
In Saskatoon's non-partisan municipal politics, City Park lies within ward 1. It is currently represented by Darren Hill, first elected in 2006. [8]

City Park Collegiate was re-established in 1986 as an alternative education program to meet the needs of students having difficulty in the regular school setting. In 2003–2004, the timetable was expanded to a fully modified program. This program offered modified versions of compulsory high school courses along with many regular-level, hands-on electives.
The facility was renovated in 2015 and is now a multi-use school hosting various division programs including an elementary Montessori program, an online learning center, Ecoquest, Outdoor School and more. [11]
The Mendel Art Gallery was Saskatoon's major public art gallery, containing works of art from local, national and international artists, until its closure in 2015. Attached to the gallery was Saskatoon's civic conservatory, containing seasonal flower displays as well as tropical and arid plants.
The City Park Community Association organizes social and leisure programs, such as adult fitness, children/youth sports and preschool playgrounds. The association also maintains the outdoor rink at the former First Nations University of Canada campus. [13]
City Park is a part of the central division of the Saskatoon Police Services patrol system. [14] Saskatoon Fire & Protective Services' central division covers the neighbourhood. [15] Transit services to City Park are provided by Saskatoon Transit on routes 12 (River Heights/City Centre) [16] and 14 (North Industrial/City Centre). [17]
City Park contains several business districts. On the west side and south sides of the neighbourhood are commercial zones immediately adjacent to the Central Business District. Several professional businesses line Queen Street, which runs past Saskatoon City Hospital. There is a small collection of businesses near the center of City Park, at 7th Avenue North and Princess Street. Finally, there are businesses along the north edge of the neighbourhood, parallel to the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks. There are 66 home-based businesses in City Park.
City Park is located within the Core Neighbourhoods Suburban Development Area. It is bounded by the South Saskatchewan River to the east, railway tracks to the west, 33rd Street to the north, and 25th Street to the south. Most Streets are laid out in a grid plan, with avenues running north–south and streets running east–west. Some roads in the south and west parts of City Park are angled to align with their continuations in the Central Business District. Spadina Crescent roughly follows the course of the river on the east edge of the neighbourhood.
Nutana Suburban Centre is a mixed-development neighbourhood located in south-central Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a classified as a "suburban centre" subdivision, composed of medium to high-density multiple-unit dwellings, commercial areas and civic facilities. As of 2009, the area is home to 2,962 residents. Housing in the neighbourhood consists of high-density apartment-style dwellings and row houses. The neighbourhood is considered a lower-income area, with an average family income of $34,474, an average dwelling value of $266,311 and a home ownership rate of 29.3%. The low average income but comparatively high dwelling value is due to the number of senior citizens residing in the neighbourhood. The age distribution of Nutana SC's population is skewed very highly toward residents age 65 and older.
The Central Business District is one of seven development districts in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The central business district is Ward 6 of a Mayor-Council government represented by councillor Cynthia Block. Formerly called West Saskatoon, this area arose when the steam engines built their pumping stations on the lower west bank of the South Saskatchewan River. Retail enterprises sprang up around the newly created train station and rail yards. The city of Saskatoon's Central Business District has shopping malls and boutiques.

Kelsey-Woodlawn is a combination of industrial park nestled between the North West Industrial SDA and the Central Industrial of down town Saskatoon. It is still serviced by the CNR rail lines to both the north and east. There are two older neighbourhoods, one still survives near SIAST - Kelsey institute on Idylwyld Drive North, and the other is the McVicar Addition near the Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Exhibition subdivision of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, is located on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River and was developed between the two major World Wars. To the west is the Diefenbaker Management Area which boasts the Diefenbaker park and Pioneer Cemetery. Richmond Heights, adjacent to the South Saskatchewan River, features walking trails in the Meewasin Valley. G.D. Archibald Park North hosts baseball and soccer games. Luther Heights is a Luther care community for those aged 60 and over. In 2006, 73.5% of the residents owned their own home; the average home size was 2.3 residents.
Parkridge is a residential community in western Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, located on land annexed by the city between 1975 and 1979. Development of the subdivision initially began in the early 1980s. The extreme west end of the neighbourhood remained undeveloped until the subsequent creation of the adjacent Blairmore Suburban Centre led to the final phase of Parkridge being built out in the early 2010s. Whereas the majority of residents are employed in the sales and service sector, the next highest employer is business, finance and administration. The two main age groups are those in their 40s and teenagers as of 2005. Until recently Parkridge was the farthest western neighbourhood of Saskatoon south of 22nd Street. However, new construction will soon see Neighbourhood 2 of the Blairmore SDA bear that claim to fame. In comparison, the neighbourhood of Parkridge with a 2001 census population of 4,505 is larger than the Saskatchewan city of Melville which had a population of 4,149 in 2006, and 4,453 in 2001 and Parkridge is a little smaller than the provincial city of Humboldt which was 4,998 in 2006, and 5,161 in 2001. In Saskatchewan rural towns must maintain a population above 5,000 to apply for city status. According to MLS data, the average sale price of a home as of 2013 was $327,072.
Stonebridge is a mostly residential neighbourhood located in south-central Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a suburban subdivision, consisting of low-density, single detached dwellings and a mix of medium-density apartment and semi-detached dwellings. As of 2009, the area is home to 994 residents. The neighbourhood is considered a middle-income area, with an average family income of $67,642, an average dwelling value of $321,004 and a home ownership rate of 72.4%.
River Heights is a neighbourhood in Lawson Suburban Development Area, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Its eastern boundary borders the South Saskatchewan River. The suburb is just south of the Mall at Lawson Heights. Development of the neighbourhood began in the very early 1960s, with full build out completed by the early 1980s. Most of the neighbourhood's land was annexed by the city in the late 1950s, with the eastern third of the district annexed in 1974. As a community name, River Heights predates the development by half a century, appearing on the May 1912 "Saskatoon and Environs" map that sketched out future development for the young city; at the time, the name was attached to a community in the current location of Montgomery Place.

Westview is a suburban community in the Confederation Suburban Development Area (SDA) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Originally named "Tuxedo Park" by real estate developers in 1912, the area remained undeveloped until the 1960s. The east half of Westview is located on land annexed by the city in 1911, while the western half did not become part of Saskatoon until 1960.
