Subdivisions

Kuwait is divided into 6 governorates ( muhafazah ). The governorates are further subdivided into areas. Each governorate is headed by a Governor appointed by a ministerial decree for a period of 4 years which can be renewed upon the proposal of the Prime Minister.

History

The beginning of the formation of governorates in the State of Kuwait started in 1962 with the Emiri decree No. 6 which divided the Kuwait into three governorates i.e. Asimah Governorate, Hawalli Governorate and Ahmadi Governorate. Later, Jahra Governorate, Farwaniya Governorate and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate were formed in 1979, 1988 and 1999 respectively.

Yarmouk is an area of Kuwait City in the Al Asimah Governorate in Kuwait. Divided into four blocks, its main dwellers have moved to the area from Al-Faiha as their families grew. Its main street is called Abdul-Aziz Bin-Baz Street which extends from the entrance and the Fourth-Ring Road all the way to the other side. It is also one of the most prestigious suburbs in Kuwait, alongside other suburbs such as Nuzha, Shuwaikh and Dahia Abdullah Al Salem. Its population is 25,000.

Tartus Governorate, also transliterated as Tartous Governorate, is one of the 14 governorates of Syria. It is situated in western Syria, bordering Latakia Governorate to the north, Homs and Hama Governorates to the east, Lebanon to the south, and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. It is one of the few governorates in Syria that has an Alawite majority. Sources list the area as 1,890 km2 or 1,892 km2, with its capital being Tartus.

Zahra is an area of Hawalli Governorate in Kuwait. It is divided into eight blocks. Zahra is part of the larger South Surra region which comprises four other areas: Shuhada, Siddeeq, Salām, and Ḥiṭṭīn. The 360 Mall is one of Zahra's prominent attractions. Zahra is also home to many government agencies and administrations.

Kuwait is divided into six governorates, and in each there are several areas. They are much less commonly called by other names such as districts or towns. However, they are commonly known inside the English-speaking community in Kuwait and are officially translated to as areas. The Arabic word for area, Mintaqah, means both area and region. Areas are further sub-divided into blocks, each of which is referred by a number. All blocks are divided into streetsšāriʿ. Then some areas may be further sub-divided into Jadda, which is translated to avenue or lane.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rawda, Kuwait</span> Area in Capital Governorate, Kuwait

Rawda is an area located within the Capital Governorate of Kuwait and is considered a suburb of Kuwait's capital city, Kuwait City. It comprises five residential blocks. The area is served by the Rawda and Hawally Cooperative Society. It neighbors five other areas. Going clockwise, they are Adailiya, Nuzha, Hawally, and Surra. The area falls between, and is served by, Kuwait's 3rd Ring Road and 4th Ring Road from east to west. Kuwait's Route 40 located to the east of the area, and serves it from the north to the south.
